October...The month of fall colors, crisp mornings, witches & goblins is upon us... one of my favorite times of the year. A time to enjoy the antics of our canine friends before the hustle and bustle of the Holidays.
Hi J'an You said you went to Red River. Is that the same Red River as in the song. My Grandfather taught my sister and I a song when I was about 8 years old. 'take me back to the Red River Valley, take me back to a heart that is true, take me back to the Red River Valley, bla bla bla That's all I can remember.hahaha. I think it's an old western song
Patty, how is Hook. Better I hope. Sounds awful.
I can't believe it's October. I'll have to start Christmas shopping-one present a week.
34c today and supposed to be back to 23 tomorrow. Up and down like a yoyo.
Ruby is going strong except for a tommy rash. She has been licking it which doesn't help.
good morning. Rain for the first day of Oct. We got the wood stacked yesterday and all of the summer stuff packed away, so we are ready for the cold wind and rain, I guess:( . Jenny I think its "and the cowboy that loved me so true" Bla Bla Bla. Hook is doing ok. I am supposed to give him a bath twice a week. The tub is out of the question and the river is to cold and full of Salmon fishermen, so I have been tying him up the the bumper of the truck and giving him a warm water sponge bath. Boy he does not like it at all. I don't like it much myself. Oh well. Do you have Benadril ( spelling) spray there? That will help Ruby not to sctatch. Well happy fall everyone, Patty
It's the same Red River, Jenny, but several hundred miles further down stream. The Red River Valley is in Texas... we live in Central Louisiana :-) Surprisingly enough we have the Red River, the White River, and the Black River here in LA... and a whole bunch more, including the Father of all rivers in North America... the Mississippi :-) Why is it called the Red River? Because of the red dirt that it picks up along the way... the river is a reddish-brown color... it may just look dirty to most folks... but I love it the way it is.
Patty, what a mental picture! That big dog tied to the truck bumper and you squirting him down with the hose! :-) Our dogs are small enough, except for Bilbo, to wash them in the bathtub... Hook's hose baths are much like giving a horse a bath... but they usually enjoy their baths. :-)
Have been matting calendar prints all day for a Fall Festival at a local church... I ache all over... so I am quitting for the night... tomorrow I get to spray the adhesive on them to finish the job... 75 prints, should be fairly "high" by the time I get done with the glue job LOL.. Think I will do it on the patio so the house doesn't reek of spray glue!
Gotta run and fix some supper... haven't hardly eaten all day, so I am starving... not to look at me, but inside the tummy is empty!
Believe it or not, I got all of the calendar art matted and ready to go... mats glued... signs made... change purse ready... even have an easel to display the large ones on... now I am excited about tomorrow, and can't sleep (shaking head) so I thought I would check out the Bark... no one out here... sure is quiet... Where the heck are ya all hiding? We had another rainy TBer of a night last night... all 3 dog in bed with us... sure am glad we don't have big dogs! Our krewe range from about 40 lbs (Maddy) to about 60 lbs (Bilbo) so there aren't what I would call Minis. The storm came and went in about 1-2 hours, so we all sleep wadded up together the rest of the night. Ah yes... togetherness :-)
Good morning J'an. It is quite chilly here in Michigan. Sounds like you and your furkids are cozy and comfy all in your big bed!! My Pom sleeps (so happily) in a port-a-crib -- I thought I would throw it out when she grew up and climbed out but she just loves it so she can keep it. I keep a comfy blanket at one and a piddle pad at the other end -- which she uses during the night. My Papillon has his own little fancy bed that he snuggles into with a fluffy blanket that he scrunches up -- they have numerous little beds around the house but the Pom never never cuddles in one of those. Aren't they funny little creatures? Need to go and do some yard work at "for sale" house. then I think I will come back and paint the mailbox post -- saw my neighbor doing it yesterday -- good idea.... Been 3 1/2 years now -- only one lowball offer on "for sale" house -- it is a great house on one acre. pathetic..... good thing I am still working so that we can pay the taxes!!!
Good morning from the NW still dark, going to be a nice day. I can see the the light creeping up, a little pink in it. Got to get out in the yard today and get some fall weeding and deadheading done. That last storm really beat up my Dahlias, so I have to give them some help. Dogs are want thier food so had better get to it. Have a great weekend all., Patty
Hi - Been busy. I hired help to clean up the yard. I know it's a waste because every spring it's a mess again. I have always done it and guess I always will. It wouldn't feel like fall if I didn't. We are at peak for autum foliage season. I must say it's really beautiful. Lily Belle is beginning to walk better on the leash. She waits by the door for me to put it on - bless her little soul. Coco runs all over the place. She doesn't like down. She chewed up my down pillows and now my down comforter. OMG what a mess - down everywhere - and I mean everywhere. I know it was Coco because Lily Belle was with me when the comforter was chewed this time. Oh well - she doesn't seem to mind wool. lol What am I to do??
Oh Donna I have seen the mess down can make. It just gets into everything. You will be picking feathers forever. sorry:( MY friend who has my "Hooks" father came home and found him with all of the pillows on the bed. Ripped to pieces. They got the greatest pictures of Miles in the middle of the bed just covered with down. White down on a blue dog very pretty if it is not your mess.. Off to work at the golf course course today. we have a 108 man tourament today, so will be a big day there. A good day to all, Patty
Hi Guys It's chilly and wet here. Great for all the weeds to grow. I had planned to do heaps of weeding out the back this weekend but it's just too wet. Even if the rain stopped I'd be pulling more soil than weed. Hi J'an. no Blue River? How was the Festival. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Hi Patty, We have Benadril cough medicine but I've never seen Benadril spray(haven't had to look for it). I have some cream from the vets that works well-it has a very bitter taste so Ruby shouldn't lick it. How's the down problem. Once years ago I jumped into bed and took a deep breath at the same time. A feather went down my throat and I choked like crazy. The dogs don't seem to choke on down. Hi Dolly-all pups seem to love their beds. Every morning I move Ruby's out of her night sleeping place. If I'm a bit slow to move it she usually grizzles at me until it's done. Hi Donna, I thought Coco was an angel. Do you think Lily Belle has settled down a bit more now? I'm off to the mid north coast for 10 days. I don't think we will have much beach weather but just to be away and out of the city will be wonderful. No alarm clocks for 10 days-yippy. Take care Everyone. Enjoy the weekend. Jenny
Down feathers & Lilly Belle walking on a leash...sounds like all ya'll have been busy while I have been otherwise occupied :-) Haven't checked to see if there is a Blue River here yet, but I will have to do that... we have had a couple of nice days without rain... during Church on Sunday, it let go in sheets... but the Good Lord saw fit to stop it before we got out of the service :-) The Festival? Well, it was fun to touch base with all of our old friends and acquaintances at our old Church, and meet some new folks.. and have a big bowl of home-made Gumbo... Yummm... but as for selling anything, that is another matter. Sold 2 prints to a neighbor, gave out my cards to a bunch of folks interested in my website, had a great time at a minimum cost... and brought home an angel, a hen & rooster, a hedgehog, and an elephant that my hubby found in the White Elephant table area when they went half price LOL! We will probably do it again next year, just for the fits and giggles, but without expectations of getting rich or famous!
We have been in and out so much lately that the dogs are starting to give us dirty looks whenever we change clothes. They are enjoying the cooler temps and the time outdoors and it is good to see the three of them romping in and out the door together... Bilbo even put up with the commotion and noise when we had a bunch of folks over for cake and coffee after a Church concert Sunday nite... I think he is getting the idea that every time someone comes to visit, it doesn't mean they are here to take him to a different home... he enjoys meeting ladies and little girls, it seems, more than grown men...but he tolerated everyone wanting to have a look at the "new" dog. :-)
Well, it has been another long day... and my fingers, bum, and eyes are telling me about it, so it is off to the bed for a few Z's and some much needed rest....sure hope those 50% chance thundershowers to somewhere else tonite.
Hi Everyone, well I'm back from vacation and had a wonderful time. The weather couldn't have been better, every day around 76*. All the kids had a great time too, met alot of new doggie friends and their owners while out and about. My hubby's son came up for a couple of days and brought his yellow lab Trisket with him. This was the first time that Trisket came that Olivia didn't pitch a fit when she saw her. Either she is getting to old to care, or she finally accepted her as a frined. Good to be home, but sure hated to leave that beautiful place. We've been staying at the same place for about 15 years and go at the same time every year. Next year we're thinking about staying a little longer. Weather her is very mild in the mid to high 70's, with rain expected first part of next week. Glad to see that everybody is ok and all of their kids too. Edie
Patty you know what you are talking about. I am still finding down here and there and everywhere it seems. This wasn't feathers either - it was straight down. Never again !!! It is obvious Coco Puff has "issues" with down. No more down anything in my home. I just worked 6 days straight - 12.5 hours a day plus an hour travel time each way. OMG I am exhausted. I am going on vacation to see my grandsons. I hope Coco puff is up to learning to do stairs or it's a hotel room for me. I have to get hopping - cleaning up the house - hate to come home to a dirty house, pack and then a 11 hour drive. I'll be back in 3 weeks. Donna
