I am a total animal lover, and I have always rescued dogs (actually, for some reason they find me) but I adopted an English Mastiff as a 3 month pup,she (Tasha) is now 2 yrs old,my 3rd dog,and she is so dopey and sleeps a lot,she sleeps with me,(actually she has to have her head on me when she sleeps) and her snoring and shaking while sleeping is concerning me,I know people can have sleep abnia, and that affects the heart,I have to wake her up when she is really shaking and snoring so loudly.I wonder if it is taking a toll on her heart,I have fallen in love with her from the moment I saw her,and have never seen a dog act the way she does,She already has knee problems, where the knee has to pop into place before walking, she sounds like she is wearing slippers and dragging her feet when she walks, vet says that she is going to have problems later on,I am very upset over that as well.she is around 140lbs,she was the runt of the litter. I have a pic of her next to my name somethingspec-4-u-2008 for ebay,I don't know if it will come up or not on this site, she was only 5 months old at the time of the pic. she has grown some since. if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. I am very worried about her,(plus my other 2 dogs with multiple probs, they are 13 & 14 yrs old) I am disabled myself, and ebay is my only source of income for right now, so I am on a very tight budget. Please let me know if anyone else has any suggestions, thank you! God bless!

well sleep apnea is when the throat is blocked while sleeping and oxygen is limited at night to the brain
and cause snoring and stop breathing the shaking might be something else i think
this does not sound like the dog is not breathing at night. could be night terrors or bad dreams if u ask me.
my bf has this n just got operated on so he can breath at night
now bout dogs im sure they would be able to do this operation also
there is not much u can do for apnea for dogs there is machines for ppl but i dont think dogs can have this
im not quite sure.
i have afriend who has mastiffs
they r monsters i tell ya HUUUUUGEEE
i can almost ride it myself as a horse!
as for the dogs leg problem i just had my dog operated on for knee surgery i suggest u get calcium pills for the dog and give it everyday
this will help the dog go longer without surgery if it can hold it off
my belle ended up with no more knee and ligaments in it.
let me tell ya vvveeerrrryyyyyyyyy expensif not for tight budgets
these dogs r heavy breathers to begin with
they r very gentle dogs
good luck with the knees on him!

ohh n my belle has epilepsy does the convulsions
when tehy do that they dont understand what is going on
nothing is clear to them and dont understand what is going on or what u say
if its seizures vanilla ice cream right after an attack is the best to lower the next attack
i suggest u get blood tests or xrays for brain tumours
best u talk with ur vet bout the convulsions ur dog would be awake if he has em
but u said he is sleeping
i believe he is dreaming that is all like i said go see a vet to get a clear conscious bout this

I have had a few Mastiffs. Most of them snore. They have (pushed noses) like pugs, and it does affect thier sleeping. I don't think you need to worry about the kicking and moving they are just chasing cats or whatever. You should ask you vet the next time you see him so he can check her breathing. Keep her weight down do not let her get fat. It is to hard on the joints. Get "Sea Q", very good! or fish oil or (i can't spell this one) Gluecosamine. Fish oil is the cheepest, huge jar at Wal-mart for about $10.00.(1 a day) This will help to lube the joints. Don't let her sleep on cold hard surfaces. And no jumping up and down from high places. Hope that this helps you a little. Patty

glucosamine and chondroitin is calcium which is very good its a molecule used in the formation and repair of cartilage and other body tissues. production of glucosamine slows with age.
