I am just wondering if there is anyone out here that is owned by a Newf or 2?
I have 2 and would love to share some stories on them and other items.
I am getting my male AKC CHIC certified on the 20th, a day after his 2nd birthday. He is awesome and his preliminary hip exray turned out awesome, so hopefully he will test out well on the other stuff. We plan to find other females to breed him with to keep this beautiful boy going...
If you have a newf or more, chat awhile.....
Take care......I have hairballs to vacuum up and windows to clean, and all that good stuff that goes with owning a Newfie. Val
They are beautiful gentle giants, aren't they? They look scary but that's where it ends. Years ago I had a male Springer Spaniel who was a "yapper" -- the neighbors who lived behind us (we each have one acre) had a large black Newfoundland who never barked back at my Springer who barked at the Newfie incessantly. One day, the Newfoundland came into our yard (just a little over the line) took my Springer and flipped him upside down and held his big paw over my dog's chest for about 30 seconds. WELLL -- it happened in a flash -- (I was running like crazy to the back of the yard) the Newfoundland didn't hurt my guy, just showed him who was boss. He let my dog up and he ran home like lightning and wouldn't even go out if the Newfoundland was out. He would run to the window and check to see if the coast was clear before venturing out. We laughed for years about that. I am sure you will get lots of friends to talk to about your wonderful dogs. Dolly
Oh My gosh Dolly.....that story is way too funny....I can see it though. My male, Samson, has that big front paw that swings around to control whatever he wants as he holds his head down to wait to see what happens with my female mix Newf....She is fixed, he is not.....so you know what HE wants.....and she can't give or should I say WON'T......HA! Makes for madness around here sometimes.
Sasha the Newf mix (dad=AKC Newf, Mom=Black lab+Rott) is our spunky one....must be the ROTT in her.LOL... She is the one in the bottom of the pic, Samson is the one at the top. Willie our black lab is in the middle at the window.
I will have to update the picture soon, as they are getting their winter fur.....oh my gosh, I thought summer was bad for airborne hair around here! But they are beautiful and large. They weigh as much as I do, and the last time I took both of them for a walk together, I ended up on the gravel road face down. A car came roaring up from behind and spooked Sasha and around I went. I hurt for days, but it was not their fault......just a jacka** driving like a maniac an the dirt road.
Anyway, thanks for sharing that story with me, it was hilarious and made me laugh like crazy! Val Enjoy your furbabies!
Man, I give you a lot of credit for attempting to walk three large dogs!! The first time I took both of my SMALL dogs for a walk the female ran around me two or three times and I was hopelessly tied up and fell on the ground. I could only hope that none of my neighbors saw me. It's amazing how fast you can get up when you feel humiliated. Now I take them out separately. Your dogs are beautiful. I see you have perfect windows for them to see out. I have to wash off nose prints along the bottom of my windows at least once a week.
Hi, oh no.....not 3 dogs at a time unless we take the 6-wheeler and I am sitting down...LOL....I took the two several times, until once I was eating dirt road after a SUV came flying past and scared Sasha my female into a tizzy. I was right in front of a house and yes, you get up fast! I did get halti's for my Newfs so they don't pull me. It works great on my male Samson, have to try it on Sasha yet...she will be the stubborn one . Ahhh yes, nose prints on the lower 1/3 of the slider all the time...They love that window. The pic is them looking in...Thanks for thinking they are beautiful, I think so too., I will have to change the pic again to an updated one. Have a great day and will chat later, good luck walking you small guys!
hey the only newfie i have or know im hanging out in his post hahhahaha (editing part) i meant in mem's post not here hahaha i just came back to check out and re read what i just typed and it soooooooooooooooo does not ,look good my bad sorry i wasn't clear here hahaha
Yeah, they are great dogs, my un-neutered male thinks that he is going to be king over my spayed mix female newf. So on it goes, With them both being over 135 lbs. it is quite the showdown in the house. Needless to say, I am slowly getting rid of knick knacks around the house.....that way I don't have to vacuum them either...LOL....I am anxious for this Friday when I take Samson the AKC Newf for his certification on hips, elbows, heart etc.....then I will be looking and screening some potential females to breed with. I will be a bit fussy too ......(I am sure that Sam won't be, but heck, Mom has to look after her boy..) Keep in touch! Love this NH when we talk dogs!! Val
I have a Great Pyrenne and she is in love with Samson, the neufie who lives next door up the hill. The other day I saw my neighbors truck go by and Samson was standing on the truck bed with his front paws on the roof of the truck cab. It was too funny.
kkorvette.......that is too funny....I can just see it. The Pyrenese is a larger dog also and beautiful.....Where do you live? I live in Michigan, so summers are warm for my furballs, and nice in the fall and winter. They love the snow and rain and lay in the elements instead of in their coop when I am at work. Sometimes they are pure white when they lay out in the snow. Thanks for sharing that story with me, it brought a big smile to my face with the visual.....
Hi KK, I have a Great Pyrenees also. Her name is Lakota, but I call her my little Coco Puff. I live in northern Maine so short cool summers and long cold winters. I also have an Akbash named Lily Belle. They certainly have personality. Both are smart dogs. They keep me busy. Lily Belle is pictured. What's your GP's name?? Donna
Hi all, My Pyrennees name is Lori. She has a brother dog who is a Bearded Colle named Darby. Any way, The dogs are in NH while I am an RN. on contract in Florida for the moment. The dogs live on a sheep farm with a friend of ours. My husband's plant closed and now he's down here too... well it's just a long story. Our friends are fostering them until it straightens out. I do miss them.
This is great.....what a wonderful neighbor hood to share stories with. Sorry to hear that you have to foster your furbabies while you are gone, but sounds like you have some people that you trust with them... I am already worried about a cruise that hubby and I are going on in Feb with my mom and sisters/spouses.....who is going to care for my big furbabies????? So working on that now too, I need to feel comfortable with that.
Thanks for sharing your stories, that is fun to share! Loppy.....what kind of dog is an Akbash? Would love to see a picture of that one....large, small, medium??
I am very excited about the initial results of the testing on my male Samson...vet said that they would be surprised if he did not test out at Excellant for hips and elbows....had to laugh because they said he was so big that they had to send in 2 films instead of 1 as usual because they could not get it all in one shot!
Will keep you posted when the final test results come in. BTW I have to take him in for his eyes for certification also on Dec 4th.....then he should be ready for breeding....
