I'M MAKING A NEAT DOG POSTER FOR MY SON'S ROOM! IF YOU DON'T MIND, PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AND SEND IN YOUR DOG'S NAME I WILL ADD IT TO MY SON'S POSTER!! ALSO, HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON THIS NAME? I HAVE TWO BLOODHOUND/BEAGLE MIXES-7 MONTHS OLD-CHARLIE & MACKENZIE...CHARLIE WAS 'CHARLIE' AS SOON AS I LOOKED IN HIS EYES! MACKENZIE I WENT BACK AND FORTH WITH! I COULD'T NAME HER A REAL 'GIRLIE' NAME BECAUSE SHE'S SUCH A TOMBOY -SHE EVEN REFUSES TO EAT 'PINK' TREATS!! THANKS, JOEYROSE

What a neat idea!!!

My first male lab/pit mix was named Murrey. Just like Charlie, I looked at him and that was his name. I honestly have no idea why or where that name came from in my head. To me - he just looked like a Murrey.

Allidar (Alli) - was named after the 27th best race horse of the 20th century (an American Thoroughbred Stallion). I heard the name years ago while watching a documentary on Calumet Farms and said if I ever got another dog, that was the name. Although the racehorses' name is spelled Alydar, I changed it up a bit. Also, my nickname is "dar" - so it just fit perfect.

Thanks...Darla & Alli

Cool!!!

We have a 4 1/2 Vizsla that my hubby named Enya because the breed comes from Hungary & of the music artist, Tux our 2 1/2 Rat Terrier I named because I was watching a dog show a few years ago & there was Fox Terrier named Tux that had many titles & he was a handsome boy, Remington our 7 year old GSP was adopted & he came to us with the name but we call him Remi for short & our 1st dog a 6 year Chihauhau mix also a rescued puppy my hubby named Coco because she is chocolate. Coco is the smallest & is the boss, weighs 15 lbs & Remi who also a chocolate weighs 75 lb & would never try to challenge her. All are nuetered/spayed& microchipped.....

Have fun with the poster!!!!

Happy Holidays!!!!

Hi Joeyrose,

Lindsay came from the shelter with that name and we liked it, so kept it.
Kelly came from her last home with that name, so we also kept it.
Kenny was named by my then 21 yr old son, after Nascar's Kenny Schrader....

Hi J & Critters,

Maybe not a dog topic, but it is ALWAYS a topic in my house!!

My son has worshipped Kenny Schrader forever. However, I must admit that I winced when he said that's what he wanted to name the dog...

Hi Cindy;

Always a topic in our house & my inlaws.

We are cautiously hopeful for JG but we all love KS as he is probably the classiest veteran out there & he will drive anything!

Maybe we should start a Nascar neighborhood or maybe there is one, haven't looked.

When I brought Tillie home, I could not think of a name for her and I just kept looking at her and saying "What's your name?" The next morning when I woke up, I knew it was Matilda - Tillie for short. Over time it grew into Matilda Sue Waggeldytail. Dear little Spanky had his name when I got him it grew to Spanklin Theodore Lickyourface, of the South Hampton Lickyourfaces. When I got Sampson I had a business called S&T trading Post. My girlfriend said his name should begin with an "s". Spot, Sparky etc. are out in this house, so I finally settled on Sampson. It has grown to Sampson LaRue Tenfeet. Onika all ready was Onika, but she's deaf I could have changed it. It has grown to Onika Rose Throwmyball. I know, silly old lady.

When we found Ajax at 8 weeks, he was named Boots by his foster mom. He didn't seem like a "boots". We made a list of names from mythology and other sources and tried them out. Ajax (boxer/beagle) leader. When we said the different names out loud, he came running over when we said Ajax so I guess we all selected it. It suits him. We got Ginger(boxer/ ridge back, she had her name so we kept it. It suits her too...peppy and she is a ginger color.

Our pit bull Max got his name because my husband is soooooo original, lol. His brother, a blue heeler mix is named Jimi after Jimi Hendrix. My collie is Tess aka Tessiepoo. When I got her from a shelter, she was 9 years old and named Prissy. I thought she deserved better than that. My black chow chow was named Ebony, probably my most beautiful dog ever (not real smart though, lol) I had a red chow/afghan mix years ago named Punkin. Sounds like your son's room is going to be really cool.

Our dog's name is Roxie here's how we came to choose that name.

We had had our shephard/lab mix, Molly, for ten years before we had to put her down due to cancer. At that time in time, that day had been the worst and toughest day of my life. I still can't talk about it without tearing up. But we knew in our hearts she was suffering and it was time.

After a few months, we decided to adopt another dog. We went to a local SPCA shelter and adopted this lovable, sweet chihuahua/terrier mix, Rocky. They estimated he was about 1 1/2 old (I guess the vet can tell from their teeth!), but didn't know much more about him. The shelter had explained he had been a stray found on the streets. He and my children took to each other instantly, and there was no doubt Mr. Rocky was coming home with us. He immediately became one of the family. About 6 weeks later, one awful, Thursday evening, we called Rocky (who was usually right next to one of the kids) and he didn't come when called. We searched the house and found him at the doorway to the downstairs bathroom...hardly breathing. We had to rush him to two different emergency vets (b/c the 1st one didn't have x-ray machinery) - they came out after his exam and told us he was very ill...very low blood pressure, his temperature was very low - they believed he had a perforated intestine, but couldn't determine for sure b/c his stomach cavity was filled with blood and they couldn't get a good picture. We had to leave him overnight while they gave him plasma transfusions and tried to get his blood pressure up and stablize him. Early the day morning, we received the worst call an owner can recieve - it was from the emergency vet and they indicated he was slipping fast...he wouldn't clot...had DIC (where your blood won't clot). They indicated they wasn't anymore they could do. He died before we could get there. I have to say, in a way, Rocky's death devastated me more than even Molly's, b/c it was so unexpected...Molly had had a wonderful life with us, and we had had time to say our good-byes. However, not with Rocky. I was a total wreck and felt bitter toward the world. It just didn't seem fair that we had 2 pet urns sitting on our my mantle within 5 months of each other!

After much thought, we decided to give adoption another try. We found this adorable sheltie/mix, who touched our heart from the first moment we saw her. As a tribute to Rocky, we decided to name her ROXIE. She is a total blessing to us and not a dog goes by that I don't thank Him for helping us find her!

What a great idea! We just recently got a new puppy, it's a beagle mix and we think she's part rat terrier but she's so adorable and about 4 months old. We named her Lucki because the person we got her from rescued her while she was roaming around the school yard without a home and with a broken leg. She took her in and had her leg put in a cast then nurtured her back to health, gave her her shots then let us adopt her from them which we had been looking for a puppy for a while at that time. We knew the right dog would come along when the time was right. From the moment we saw her we knew she was the perfect addition to our family. We considered ourselves lucky to have her and she was lucky to have been found and given a good home. My daughter wanted her name spelled lucki with an "i" just to show she was unique. She has brought new, young life into our home..
