I recently bought a vintage horseman doll at an estate sale and the face and arms have a sticky coating on them. I tried washing with soap and water and it didn't seem to help. Is this normal? How do I wash off this sticky film? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The sticky skin on your doll is probably due to migrating plasticisor. I have not found anything that works to correct this as it has to do with the oils in the plastic. This happens to dolls that are stored in attics for long periods of time.

The problem with sticky is that you can clean it, just when you think it is gone, it seems to always come back. I love all dolls especially the ones that need to be taken home, cleaned, loved & revived, but the best thing to do for a sticky doll is to turn around & walk away.

I tried a lot of things and finally tried baking soda. It worked. I don't know if it will wear off someday.

Hi there, I bought a doll cleaner on ebay that worked on my old dolls that had oily skin vinyl. It worked great and also cleaned the soil grime off where I couldnt get it off with just soap and water ,it wiped off easy and was easy to use. theres instructions with the cleaner for oily skin dolls too, it says to use some powder after cleaning off the doll with the doll cleaner to keep the oil from coming back. I found that the price of the doll cleaner was well worth it,it last and last and I already cleaned a few dolls and have a lot left. I love this product, hey I sound like a commercial, honestly im not affiliated with the seller in any way. I bought the product from her recently and love it. its called Carol's Miracle doll cleaner. I'll put one of her auction numbers on here for you to go see it. good luck. It worked for me,so Im happy to let you know about it. best wishes with your dolls.

I also meant to add it worked on the stickyness on the old dolls I have too, I have a Ideal baby big eyes, she was really sticky, now shes not, I put powder on after the doll cleaner ,just slightly,so as not to see it, and the doll cleaner doesnt need to be rinsed off, its so easy, and no cleaning strong odors, its clear, and also it gets the stink musty smells off my dolls too, from storage, have to be careful with the dolls paint on hp and compo dolls, instructions show how to find out if the paint is permanent so it doesnt come off with the cleaner, theres no scrubbing so you wont scratch your dolls up,you just wet the rag and wipe, great stuff. It said in instructions, it works on vinyl, hard plastic, plastic, and compo dolls, im not sure if its for porcelain or bisque, I forget at the moment, good luck
