Of course the description doesn't say it's fake. But any Dooney fan knows otherwise. It's a shame that there is no way to warn the unsuspecting buyer of what they are about to acquire. I understand that some people are perfectly fine with buying/carrying a knock-off or replica. However, I also believe that if the buyer knew the truth, they will think twice before they place a bid, or won't pay more than what it's worth. I thought copyright infringement..i.e. selling fakes, is not permitted on eBay? In the end, they (ebay) probably could care less until they receive a report or complaint. What do my fellow Dooney lovers think?!
..ooops...i was so disappointed that i completely forgot to post the item number: 140250377921 http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-LARGE-DOONEY-BOURKE-PURSE-NEVER-CARRIED_W0QQitemZ140250377921QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item140250377921&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318
I just want buyers to know that I report fakes on a daily basis...in fact ebay is probably getting sick of me...lol There has been a fake giraffe bag with red trims that I had to report three times as the seller relisted it after if was removed once and then had the nerve to change her user ID and relist it a third time! It took me three times to report it the third time before ebay removed it. Authentic Dooney & Bourke Giraffe bags do not have colored trims. Watch out for those signature bags!! Those seem to be the most copied...I also see a lot of fake AWL from days gone by and fake giraffe recently. PLEASE if you are unsure....ask lots of questions. I have actually seen sellers saying that they guarantee a Dooney bag to be 100% Authentic in their title and description and it is soooo FAKE. You cannot warn the buyer as ebay has the buyers identity blocked now. If you know a bag to be a fake one for sure, help me by reporting it as a fake to ebay. Go to the bottom of the page on the fake bag's listing and click on report this item, follow the steps and let them be aware of this. Ebay just got a big lawsuit filed against them for not catching all the fake Louis Vuitton bags...so hopefully they will start taking some action on all the fake Dooney & Bourke..
There now it will be easier for others to see the purse. I am also a fake reporter, I have also gone as far as to email the winner of an auction after it ends to warn them, I have gotten alot of thankyous. I just tell them to get ahold of ebay immediately and email the seller and tell them they are not going to pay for a fake. The seller usually doesn't report a non-paying bidder to avoid any hassles. I can spot a fake coach on a dime, getting better at dooneys. It just makes really mad to see all the fakes that are actually on here.
Kudos to both of you for going out of your way to report fakes! I have never even noticed the "Report..." link on the bottom of each listing page. Very handy!
Here's another item with a twist.... #130239472148 ....the bag is fake, but the price tag and registration card appears to be genuine. Talk about misrepresentation! A novice buyer could easily get confused when they see the bogus proof of authenticity.
As for the lawsuit brought on by LV...I didn't hear about that one. I will be surprised if the court rule's in LV's favor. When Tiffany & Co. sued eBay, they lost. They said it's not up to eBay to verify and police every item offered on the site....well, that's what I heard on the news. Not sure if Tiffanys will challenge the decision.
To $hoppingduck--I love the name by the way :o) I also adore Coach bags but totally can't tell a fake from a genuine unless I can see it in front of me :( It's nice of you to contact buyers of fake purses. Most people don't bother because of a possible retaliation or ebay suspension. I'm one of those people who just suffers in silence...lol. Nah,j/k...it is a pain in the butt to have this happen to someone, especially if they don't go through the right channels to get their money back. I always utilize the Paypal dispute system. If that doesn't work, there is also Fraud.org. They pass the case onto the USPS Postmaster General if the transaction involved using the USPS for shipping. You can bet, they will look into it. It may take upto three months to resolve, but it's quite effective! My last resort would be to call my credit card company and dispute the charge as a fraud. Not sure if all cc co's. will do it, but AMEX is good about it. I haven't requested a chargeback on an eBay transaction, but I am willing to bet that AMEX will pretty much rule in their customer's favor.
