Well I have one story about a writer by the name of Bill Burk who knew Elvis. He's even written a few books about him.I met him at Marlowe's which is a restaurant down on Elvis Presley Blvd.maybe about a mile and half from Graceland.I was there to have lunch before I was going to go to Graceland for the first time.He noticed that I was looking at some Elvis memorabilia there on display. He came over and gave me a couple of Newsletters that he still writes in Memphis about Elvis.I asked about why Col.Parker never let Elvis tour outside of the country? He replied that the Col.was an illegal alien. He had to be present at all of Elvis concerts. If he had let Elvis perform out of the country, then he (the Col)would not have been allowed back into the U.S.because he was not a registered U.S.citizen.With the exception of Elvis being in the Army and stationed in Germany, that was the only time that Col.Parker could not accompany Elvis.I don't know if anyone knew that but I know I sure didn't!You may want to look into some of Bill Burks books which you can purchase there in Memphis or anywhere else.He started his job as a writer about the same time that Elvis started his musical carreer! In fact,Bill probably would have never become a successful writer if it hadn't been for Elvis.Apparently,Bill was liked by the Presley family because he never wrote anything bad about Elvis.I even git a picture of Mr.Burk with a stand-up poster of Elvis in the background. That is my one and only story about someone who knew Elvis Presley!

Alright elvistcb57! (high-five!!)
Now that's a great story! I didn't know that about Col. Parker and I'm sure alot of others didn't either. Also, the background about Bill Burk is very interesting and now I want to buy one of his books. Thanks!!

Your welcome!About one other thing I heard about Elvis from Bill Burk was that he was insucure about leaving the Col.I think the Col.made Elvis feel that way. It's unfortunate that Elvis didn't find someone else to manage him. Then we might have seen him in the last movie that he was offered by Barbara Striesand. She really wanted Elvis to play the part in "A Star Is Born" but Parker shot that idea down too.You see,the Col.always felt that if Elvis didn't get top billing in a movie then it wasn't worth the Col.interest.The Col.got 50% of every song that Elvis did in the movies. The more songs Elvis sang, the bigger the cut for the Col.I think we all know how Elvis didn't like doing the same movies over and over just with different story lines. He also didn't like alot of the songs he did in the movies because they weren't his style! Now we all know why the Col only had one client to manage and that was Elvis. He really did control Elvis.I know some people believe that the Col.did great things for Elvis but he also stopped him from being a serious actor which is why Elvis admired other actors like Marlon Brando and James Dean.He wanted to be like them because they were respected actors.Elvis was angry of doing the same movies because no one took him seriously as an actor. He felt that other people were laughing at him.

Hi, I've just joined. I have something unusual about Elvis. I went to a yard sale and found a portrait of him in leather. Granted I haven't been watching deliberatly for Elvis all these years but that was a first for me.

Well I am new to this, but i'll give it a try on telling what I know. I hate to burst yalls bubble on the Colonel and Elvis but they really did like each other and respect each other. Yes they argued like most married couples, but just because he could not travel out of the country did not mean that Elvis wanted to either. Before Elvis came into the picture I am sure several of you know that the Colonel not only managed Hank Snow, but also several country artist, Eddy Arnold, Minnie Pearl, plus others and handled the Purinia Country Caravan and was very sucessful touring all over the USA including bookings in Vegas long before Elvis was in the picture. Now for a funny story, Elvis was no different than anyone else. When you start making a little money, you get relatives coming out of the woodwork and for an only child with just a few cousins, he had at least 25 to 50 letters come in a month claiming to be a long lost relative that Aunt so and so said " you need to send me some money". They came out of the woodwork!
Now for a story that shows the kindness of Elvis. When he first began touring ( Bob Neal was still his "manager" even though the Colonel was booking him)
Elvis was making a few hundred dollars a show, he always made sure he sent his Mother and Dad the majority of the money and once a month sent his Grandaddy in Kentucky money to take care of them. To be so young at that time he already had made the promise to take care of them and followed through. How many of the young performers do that today? He was really about others and taking care of them. It hurts when I see some of the ones that had been close to him at one time take advantage of him. What a guy! Sorry this was so long!

It sold for a whopping $3.25 with free s/h! What? You want to know what it was?

I am a 33 year old woman who just recently had Elvis's autograph tatooed on top of my right foot. I love it and get lots of compliments on it. Along with people wondering where this Elvis obsession came from.

I don't know where walkerhillestates got his info on Elvis never wanting to travel out of the country but Bill Burk who recently passed away, did tell me he did want to tour in Europe.Elvis also wanted so badly to become a serious actor but Parker wouldn't let Elvis be a part of "A Star Is Born" because he wasn't going to get top billing!I'm sure there was some mutual respect between each other but that doesn't mean that Elvis liked what the Col.was doing to his career!Bill Burk was a very good friend of Elvis and his family and I don't think he would fabricate stories about Elvis.
