Block casting # C8VE-F comes back as a 74-78 460. 428 casting # are C7MW-A, C6AE-F, C6AE-A, C6AE, C5AE-A.
Hope this helps.

1 big way to tell any of the FE engines is the oil pan. The crankshaft is recessed into the block- flat oil pan. 385-series(429,460) has crank at bottom line of the block with a big bump at the front and rear of oil pan. 2 Intake on a FE engine goes out under the valve covers. The top valve cover bolts are threaded into the intake and not the head like most others. The intake is huge on an FE engine; 65-75# even more if it is cast iron.
