I have three Oscars. They keep getting a white, filmy growth on them. Just wondering if anyone would know what to do to rid this for good. I keep putting chemicals in referred by the pet store but it always comes back.

I don't know if any one answered your question or not. But i would advise this. All those chemicals come with a catch im sure that oh so helpful person at the LFS ( local fish store) didnt tell you. They only work if they are used during the "reproduction" cycle of whatever parasite or problem you are having. Meaning you have a 1 in 50 shot of catching it just right. Most problems show up in the worst stages not in the start of its cycle. So by the time you see it, well its pretty far gone. I would raise your temp. in your tank to around 85-87 ( depending on what the highest range your oscars can tolerate over the course of atleast five days) and add aquarium salt. Do partial water changes every two to three days. Remember to always add salt after each one, and keep the temp up. Keep the temp and salt water going at least two days after all symptoms are gone. * when raising and lowering the temp do it a few degrees at a time not in a hurry* Then after everything is done if you dont usually add salt do a partial water change without the salt. Only do this for 4-7 days. That usually clears anything up. ( if its more like ICH then i would go for closer to ten days.) Hope this helps. And do some research online to check how high you can take the temp. with oscars. They are chiclids ( which is what i keep) so they should be able to take up to 86........i have taken mine as far as 90, and i have heard of people going to 95 but i wouldnt suggest that lol.
