I'm going to be going up to Black Lake soon to do some serious fishing.Love to fish for Northerns & Bass, but they also have a Crappie contest. Haven't ever really fished for these.Anyone have suggestions on how to fish for these?Everyone says they're lots of fun...but, like I said, I don't know a thing about them, or how to fish for them, or what to use etc...Any suggestions????

I dont know about those yankee fish but in the south crappie love live minnows (toughies). I like to use a jighead with a white rubber grub as a weight. Up from the jig I tie 3 in line drop loops (blood knots) to make 3 snoots (8") for the livebait hooks, spaced about 10" apart. So your rig is 3 live baits with a jig/grub on the bottom. You can use this rig to slow troll the baits around till you get the school located and then throw Rooster Tails, yellow, yellow'white, red/yellow are what works for me...consistently.

Hey there, if the water temps are between the 50's and 60's the crappies should be spawning or getting ready to spawn, which means you can find them shallow in some easy to fish water. Look for them in shallow weeds and grasses, around stumps or timber, under docks, etc. It's one of the best times of the year to fish for crappies. Use small jigs, minnows, small crankbaits, small spinnerbaits.
