Has anyone had any success in repairing Aluminum alloy rims that have nicks and / or scratches in them? Polishing the nicks or scratches works somewhat if they’re not too bad, but I’m just curious if anyone else out there has had better success repairing the rims by some other method?
Use some sandpaper (1500 - 2000 grit), along with an aluminium polish to take out the deeper scratches. Then follow up with just a polishing pad and aluminum polish and they'll shine like new.
I only buy polished aluiminum rims, because of the ability to eliminate "curbage" completely.
hi. my names ron,to fix aluminum rims first jack up the car then with a angle die grinder carefully grind off as much damage as possible using a fine sanding disc.making sure on the face of the rim to hold your grinder straight so you dontgrind into the rim causing a valley affect.then starting with 150 grit sand paper to 220 grit to 320 grit to400 grit t0 600 grit to 1200 grit.i usaully start wet sanding from 400 grit on.of course im sure you know youll need a air compressor.at this point ill clean the rim again having done that in the begining.with the air hole blow rim. compleatly off.no water. dust or dirt every nook and cranny .a good final wipe with micro fiber rag&de-natured alcahol.and if the tire off the rim you can paint.
