hi, was wondering if anyone has taken an older carburated 460 and put a newer factory efi intake on and have it work? Any info or tips wuold be great, thanks. Brandon.
i have 7.5 460 1986 w/21000 miles MMH. I get 6 mph on good days. everything is in tip-top shape except my wallet. You will find conversion kits from Body injection to port. $2000-4500. I have looked at this for the past 3 years. The conversion does not help your fuel flow, power or EPA. The engine is called a "Torque Monster" and will eat a V-10. i have passed many RVs going uphill. I cruise at 55MPH. SAVE YOUR MONEY Regards Larry
I was wanting one to help me get my 4x4 more vertical on the rocks, but still keep the power for mud. Does anyone have anything decent to say about EFIs?
you have to change the heads as well as the intake unless you just buy the holly or edelbrock kits not much gained by it I have a toyota rock toy that I run a 383 stroker with a 4 barrel carb just drop your floats. mine will run vertical and on its side if needs be
I would suggest finding a '92 to '96 F-250 and pulling the motor and wiring harness from it then putting them into your truck. I have a '96 F250 4X4 with the 460 EFI that came with it and stock I was getting 14 MPG. I pulled the muffler out and put smaller tires on it and am getting 16 MPG now.
If someone does not believe me you can come over and we can go on a trip. But you will have to pay for gas. Even getting 16 MPG it is still over $100 to fill my tanks.
