I am just learning about different core materials and was wondering if anyone would suggest a ball to try, I've been through nike, dunlop and prostaff...not happy yet
Visit a golf pro or a fitter. You can go through ball after ball not knowing swing speeds, launch angles and ball speeds and you will never find the optimum distance, control, feel etc. Most people think they have swing speeds to play PROV1 or Prov1x but the reality is there are only a small percentage of players that can get the true use of these balls. They are purchased becuase they are expensive and a large number of pro's play them.
Titleist Pro V1X. (Or Pro V1, but personally, I say the X)
Incredible length off the tee. Amazing feel on and to the green. Not as soft as the Pro V1, but if you hack into it, it will get chewed up. If you're a decent ball striker you should be able to play more than 18 with one ball, unless you lose it! Don't lose these balls - they are expensive, but WELL WORTH IT. This is the best ball technology+rules allow. If you are serious about your game, why would you play anything else.
I have been golfing since I was 8 years old so I have been around for awhile and seen all types of balls. For higher swing speeds (120mph+) I recomend the Pro V1x. For fast swing speeds (108-119mph) I suggest the new Callaway Ix. With the same swing speed in colder weather or altitude above 2,000 ft above sea level the new Callaway I. For medium swing speeds (95-107mph) try the Titleist NXT or the Nike Black. Anything lower than 95mph swing speedhonestly it does not matter. It depends if you want the ball to go farther off the tee with no spin around the greens or vice versa, hope I could be of asistance. FYI I work for a golf manufactuer in the R & D department. I am not saying which one I am just telling the truth
I love the Taylor Made TP Black and the Bridgestone B330. These also compare favorably to Pro V-1 and I just bought some B330's for 24.99 on sale. Good luck!
The best ball i find is the one that goes in the hole with the least number of shots hope this helps!
Seriously it is all about preference, price and feel just have fun with it until it feels right. Enjoy the game and don't get too serious about it unless you want to make a living at it, enjoy the people you play with. What a great game it is hitting 71 or 101.
The "best" golf ball or "right" golf ball really depends on each players swing profile and game objectives - such as how much distance, control or spin a golfer demands in their ball.
There is great infomation on chosing the right golf ball (and paying a good price) in the Ball Buyers Guide and Digital Ball Catalog at GolfBallSelector.com.
You can also join GolfBallSelector.com as a member and utilize the online fitting system to pick the right ball for you from over 60 leading balls independently tested in the online database.
The Prov1 or the Prov1x are easily the best ball you can but, depending on your swing speed under 100mph - the Prov1 and over 100mph the Prov1x. These balls are great around the green with a hop and stop reaction. I recommend these balls 100%
I like the titlest pro-v1 but can not afford them. I find alot on my trips in the tall stuff and woods so I don't have to buy to many. I found 10 Pro-v1's over 18 holes last week so I am good for a few rounds. Bridgstone is making real good balls now. I am able to control them as well as the pro-v1. I also find that I do not get alot of rounds out of the more expensive balls. Seem to loose some distance and straight role on the greens after a couple of rounds.
Scrap all the personal opinions and tastes. Go for the facts instead. Browse the Feb '08 issue of Golf Magazine and their cover story "Revealed: The Best Ball for You!" You can also get it online. With a 90mph swing speed the Pro V's are 8 to 9 yards shorter than other balls, however, they make up for it with a 30% greater spin rate for green side control.
If you can't spin the ball on your best days... save the money and play Top-Flites, Pinnacle, etc.
