I just gave away my less than a year old Garmin 660 as the battery was agonizing and I was unable to use the device for any length of time unless it was connected to an outside power source. I am therefore now shopping for a new GPS which SHALL NOT be a Garmin for this single and to me most important factor. The argument by Garmin about technical progress making the device obsolete --before-- the battery finally expire is purely frivolous and seems to me as built in obsolescence in order to boost sales. After I paid for it with good old Uncle Sam greenbacks, it is mine and it is up to me to decide when to replace it not the prerogative of some slick and greasy little fiend in a marketing department. It is also my prerogative to carry with me one, two.. ten replacement batteries if it strikes my fancy. Therefore, Garmin... Hasta Le Bye Bye.... Any recommendation for a GPS WITH user replaceable battery would be appreciated.
