I think all this talk about stores closing and people losing money is starting to make me nervous! I don't have a store or buy specifically to sell, but I have TONS of my children's clothing from last year that I intended to begin listing soon. I am now wondering whether I should list them or wait a while. If I list, how do I price my items? Almost all are outfits/sets that were purchased with the hope of getting a decent price back after they were worn. Are the loses people are seeing on NWT items, EUC or both? Is clothing your children in Gymboree no longer an investment?
HI: This is my point when I say that I don't think people are doing the right thing selling Gymboree so cheap. If nwtgymboree is cheap, how well can we sell euc gymboree? In your case, it depends what lines you will list. Some lines are doing much, much better than others, even when EUC. Believe me, I know bec. since I don't have much sales, I spent a lot of time researching. I am not losing money, YET, but I am making v. little for the hours I put in, bec. the fees are so high--very little meaning way below minimum wage. So, to me, it's not worth it. I have a graduate degree in Statistics, and so does my husband. He is doing v. well in the Corporate world. So I can make a LOT of money if I go to work. This is not paying off for me, basically because the little ones are keeping me v. v. busy during the day, and at night I am so tired, I fall asleep before I can do any more listings. If you have lines of Gymboree that were v. desireble and are no longer available on ebay for Fall season, I think you should give it a try in a week or two. Fall and Winter items will become wanted soon, but with so much Gymboree on ebay, I really don't know how well they will sell. If is summer items, i would wait bec. I think most people have enough summer clothes for their kids already. Maybe you can do lots and start at a price you won't feel bad if you only get one bid. I think clothing your kids in Gymboree is no longer an investment and the people selling these ebooks on how to sell GYmboree are (I won't even say it), since they are not only ruining for everyone else but they are ruining the brand too! and they are the only ones that are making money from selling their ebooks--not the new sellers that buy the ebooks. Do some searches for the lines you have in the size you have and see what's going on with similar auctions, and then decide. It all depends on the items and if there is a demand for them. Sorry about the spelling, got to put my kids to sleep! Good luck!
Hi. I started doing this bc I love to shop and sell. I realize that I'm not going to get rich from this but any kind of pocket money makes my day. However, I still would rather dress my kids in either gymboree, gap, abercrombie bc not only of the quality but bc there's a much better chance you'll get something back from them than other lesser brands.
Hi, I think that listing your childrens outgrown clothes on Ebay is still a very good choice. My daughter is almost 6 and I do a lot of shopping for her at Gymboree, in the past I would take her clothes to a second hand shop, but for the money I got it was pointless. I now sell them on Ebay and I feel that I get (most of the times) a half descent price for them. If I didn't sell them here, I would just give them away to a local charity, which I still do if they are too worn. I have been looking at a lot of BTS items for my daughter to buy, gymboree size 7, and I see people getting what I would consider good money for used clothing. I also like to buy used clothing in outfits so I can have the whole set and not have to look all over to find the matching piece. I brought this up before how crazy it is because sometimes I can get more money for her used clothing then when I sell NWT clothing. I thought this was because people are then searching for a missing piece to their outfit and if the Gymboree store doesn't carry it then you'll look an Ebay. I sold a used hawian tank top for $10.00, sometimes I can't get that for a NWT tank top. I guess it just all depends. I'm still going to be shopping at Gymboree and buying all the coordinated pieces, plus I feel that the Gymboree quality is far superior to Gap or any other cheaper stores. BTS shopping I think will be in full swing comes the first week of August. I'll be looking for a gymboree girl size 7 and Gymboree boy size 4. Good Luck!!
Hi, I am one of the ones closing my store. don't get me wrong, I am still going to sell on Ebay, just not as a full time gig. I love Gymboree for my daughter and will still resell them on Ebay. It doesn't get better than children getting use out of something and then getting gmoney back afterwards!! Much better than a yard sale!!
My take is this.....I have a new store and was really nervous at all of the stores closing and the complete saturation of Gymboree on Ebay, but I did it anyway because I want very badly to stay at home with my daughters in the next year and a half. I think if you relly want it to work, it will happen for you!!!! Best of luck. BTW, please don't go to the stores board or you will never open a store---lots of negativity. I stick with the Children's Clothing Boutique board. Lots of positive folks!!!!
I've had a store for about a year now. I sell all my daughter's things plus some other items. I started buying to sell anything Gymboree. What I'm finding is this doesn't work anymore, UNLESS, you have an entire outfit from curlies to tights(socks). People love shoes, and accessories!!! This is because they will buy outfits and want that finishing touch. If you have several items from one line put them together. Buyers love lots. They attract more visitors and get higher bids. You'll find that although they don't start biting right away it's a slug-fest at the end. I start lots at $.99. Even on the NWT's stuff. When Gymboree has their clearance bins WIPE THEM OUT! Make sure you get stuff that matches. If you're unsure about the matching, on the top left of the price tags there is a code (GY BTS 08). Smaller sizes don't sell. I don't go smaller than 12-18 mos. When these sales are happening is usually when they are handing out Gymbucks. I think this is how everyone that offers the new lines on Ebay is able to do so. You're basically buying for half off. Good Luck. Hope this was helpful.
Thank you, everyone, for the advice! I am not looking to open a store, I just want to get a good price on my children's used clothing. I feel a little bit better about the amount of time I will be spending to get this stuff listed now. I was beginning to wonder if it would be worth it! I guess we'll see how it goes!
I am really tempted to open a store and i've read all the good and bad stuff about it. but the pressure of making enough every month to pay all the fees is extremely daunting. but thanks for advice on the outfits. i haven't tried that yet.
