For myself, The first Halloween movie is a must along with Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman. I also like some of the old classics.
Useful Funny
I agree - the first Halloween is a classic & I love watching it on Halloween!

Lost Boys from the 80's is pretty good also with a decent soundtrack. Another good one is Evil Dead. I use to have the complete Subspecies DVD set but someone borrowed it and haven't seen it since.

I just purchased a Vincent Price 5 DVD set from the Scream Legends Collection. Vincent Price was one of the best. This collection has a picture of his face on the case and his eyes are done in a way that makes it look like they follow your every move. Creepy.

Vincent Price was cast as Matthew Hopkins the famous self proclaimed Witch Finder General or Conqueror Worm as it was called when the movie was released in the US. This was released in 1968 and is a very good movie, especially with him in it. Matthew Hopkins was a self proclaimed Witch hunter in England in the mid 1600's. His methods were ruthless. One time, he had 19 people hanged as witches and 4 who died in prison simply because he said that he overheard them making a pact with the devil. He would also conduct a water test on people suspected of being a witch where you were tied and lowered into water. If you float, you were a witch and if you sink to the bottom, you are not. Problem was, if you sank to the bottom, when they pulled you out, you were usually dead .You couldn't win either way. It is all in this movie. Good choice for Halloween.

I agree with you, Rodman2053. Vincent Price was one of the best! He was even good in non-horror movies, though I think he really shines in the scary flicks. I just bought a 3-movie DVD with Vincent Price - can't wait to watch it this weekend! Lost Boys is a great movie, too.

Hey figgle, looks like I finally found someone that likes to talk about horror flicks! I was digging through some of my old movies last week and found Deadly Blessing 1981. I only had this on VHS as it is not available on DVD. I found someone on the internet who did a really nice job in transfering this to DVD for me complete with authentic case. This is a great horror flick that stars Sharon Stone in one of her first movie roles. Also has Michael Berryman in it who always stands out in a movie due to his rare medical condition that leaves him with no hair, teeth or fingernails. He was most notable for his roles in The Hills Have Eyes 1&2.

Now I have two movies I need to watch: "Witch Finder General" or "Conqueror Worm" with Vincent Price, and "Deadly Blessing." One of my favorite scary flicks is "The Thing" with Kurt Russell - it's based more closely on the book than the original "Thing" with James Arness (did you know his brother is Peter Graves?). The scariest movie I've ever seen, though, is "Night of the Living Dead" in black & white from about 1968 or 1969. I was about 5 years old when it came out & it scared the you-know-what out of me - still does!

I agree with you, The Thing was a good movie. The music was good also. Did John Carpenter compose the music for that movie? I can't remember. I believe that the Conqueror Worm version is a bit more explicit but it is still limited in regards to what it shows. Still, Vincent Price masters the character. Many say it was one of his best. I liked him in Edward Scissorhands (I don't think I spelled that right), but I guess his part was limited in that movie due to failing health.

I looked up "The Thing" and found that Ennio Morricone did the music, and apparently he was a classmate of Sergio Leone, who I believe is the king of the "Spaghetti Westerns."

My brother and I used to watch "Creature Features" every Saturday night with Bob Wilkins (out of Sacramento), and normally they would show "B" movies that were so bad, we'd ad lib through them with our smart aleck comments. That's where I saw "Night of the Living Dead" and lots of other great horror movies. I still think Vincent Price is one of the best ever, but I also love Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Bela Lugosi, Lon Cheney, etc.

Mornin fig, just for the fun of it I looked up B movies on google search. One of the results had Godzilla next to it. I had to agree, especially if it was one of the originals. Mystery Science Theater use to do the same thing where they would add funny remarks throughout the movie. I am currently watching a Rod Serlings Night Gallery Collection set on Ebay. Remember the series Night Gallery from 1970? This was a very good series with many scary stories and jaw dropping endings. I am going to see if I can win one of these sets in time for Halloween as my daughters say that nothing compares to the horror flicks of today. I do like the newer stuff but with my Vincent Price collection, Night Gallery and a few more older ones that I have, I am out to prove them wrong.

Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp, Hocus Pocus, The Craft, Interview with a Vampire, and for a girly Halloween - Practical Magic is a fav!

I agree!! Sleepy Hollow is great! Johnny Depp is perfect in movies like this, not to mention Christina Ricci and especially Christopher Walken as the Headless Horseman with his teeth filed to a point. Christopher Lee was good also. His acting is always a plus in any movie.

Watched two good movies last night from 1985. Silver Bullet with Corey Haim and Gary Busey with that neverending toothy grin of his and then for a few laughs we watched Transylvania 6-5000. A couple more good flicks for this time of year.
