Hey all! I have an 883 sportster and would like to convert it to a 1200 using one of the 'kits' available. Does anyone know of any reason why I shouldn't? I have read a great deal in other forums about the how to's and so on, but haven't really sen any negatives. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Dave

I haven't heard anything bad about the kits, most are happy with the power boost. As a side note on trade in it will not help value due to the vin indicating that it is a 883. Private sales won't matter and can be a selling point. Good luck. I had a 1200R for a while and really enjoyed it.

for some reason, 883's bumped to 1200's run WAY better than stock 1200's.
doesn't really matter whose kit you use, you get about the same results.
A tire burner with 883 badges!!
Have fun!

This is an excellent idea. More power and a lot of extra torque due to the 883 gearing you will still have. You will still get good milage and if driven reasonably even better milage. The engine will not have to work as hard. The best thing is you won't have to pay the higher insurance rate that a factory 1200 would cost you. Technically, by the vin # it is still an 883. Overall you will not be dissappointed.
