This is a really sad story. My hubbys 03 Heritage softail was stolen in May from a casino in Joplin MO. It was a gorgeous bike. It was fully customized. He had wanted one forever and finally when he divorced his first wife he got one. He financed it for 4 years and we had just paid it off. We had been using a insurance company in Ozark MO that did not understand our requests on full coverage. And we didnt read before we signed because we trusted they knew what they were doing. The night it was stolen my hubby and I stayed at the casino hotel. They assured us they had great security. Hubby had went out twice that night and checked on the bike. It was fine as well as the many other bikes there. The next morning we ate at the casino resturant and i went to play a few machines while he went to pull bike around and put our bags on. The bike was gone and to our surprise when we called our insurance company to ask about a car rental to get home....it was horrifying what she told us. Hun she said...."Your bike only has liability." WHAT KIND OF IDIOT WOULD NOT PUT FULL COVERAGE ON A 35,000 DOLLAR HARLEY?????? Sadly we got took and fought to the end. Never got anything. My Hubby lost his bike and will never be able to afford annother..or maybe just feels he isnt meant to have one. The man who stole the bike is in jail in Miami OK but....the bike was destroyed. The reason I am telling this story is because I want everyone to know how easy it is to lose your dream. The guy stoled many others also. Please keep your Bikes(dreams) locked.
makes me sad to have to here that. Insurance companies SUCK although you didn't read over papers it's still their fault I've been down that road before

I would hunt down that scum bag and feed him to the gators!!!!! People have no idea of the connection of a man and his harley. That's a killing offense!!! If I ever found someone trying to take mine, I guarantee he wouldn't be breathing for long. Whew!!! I'm pissed just thinking of it. Thanks for the heads up. Sorry to hear this, Have you got this scum's name? I live close and would LOVE to make his life alot less enjoyable !!!!! Let's just say I know people!
This loss should have been covered by your Comprehensive insurance. Not the liability. Make sure that your policy has Comprehensive. You may be required to pay a deductible if there is one. Most insurance companies require Comprehensive and Collision if you still owe on the bike. I know you said you had paid the bike off but unless you requested these to be removed the company would not just take these off without permission. That is where they make the most money! Hope things work out for you. Fair warning for all. You should check your insurance policies on EVERYTHING you own every 2 - 3 years. And on vehicles, never remove Collision and Comprehensive. (Most states require Liability.) I know that this makes the policy cost more but you see what can happen.
if there's another chance for a bike, maybe consider a used one instead of a brand new, right off the show room floor kinda bike. if you truly like to ride, shiny chrome shouldn't matter. and patrick is right - something with the insurance co. sounds fishy to me. sorry about your loss. hope it all works out.
take the guy to court to reimburse you you may not get anything or you may be able to put a lien on any income he might have if he works If you was convicted and destroyed the bike you can still make his life miserable Too many people get away with this because people give up
Some kids stole my mustang a few months ago (I was gone for the day in my truck ) and the cops did not even want to come out and take fingerprints they said we found it come and get it
Of course they wrecked it and took everything out of it and last week I got notice of the parking tickets they got during the week they had it I am going to sue their parents it has cost me over 1000 dollars so far my deductable tickets etc plus These kids will get away with it without any punishment the Parents had the nerve to say oh they were just being kids
Point being they will grow up to do more because they got away with the system makes it hard to get your just reward get this guy stealing somebodys bike is like rape
