Does anyone want to discuss the books? Which was your favorite year to read about? What house are you in?
Useful Funny
well, by far i love the last book. funny cause i usually hate it when things come to an end. but i loved that book. that and chamber of secrets. i think its interesting the way she laid out the story. not completely what i expected. i love snape. me and my sister love the books, but i'm more a fanatic. house, definetly gryffindor. funny cause my oldest daughter whos only one is slytherian. she'd be a death eater if she could. she loves snakes and all of that, in fact her birthday party is going to be harry potter cause she loves him but thats her house with out a doubt. whats your house, and whats your take on the movies?

I agree the last book was very well-written; it tied together the threads that J.K. Rowling had been weaving throughout the series.

I also really enjoyed reading The Order of the Phoenix... I was disappointed that the movie was not more detailed. As my son pointed out: The Sorcerer's Stone movie was longer than the Order of the Phoenix movie, but the Order of the Phoenix book was over three times the length of The Sorcerer's Stone book. The movie just didn't do the book justice this time. It left out S.P.E.W., and Krecher's character was not really well-developed... And where was Dobby?

I've just read that last book will be divided into two movies, so that all of the interesting Riddle family secrets can be revealed.

I have a question actually for any one who wants to answer: The elder wand, the death stick, was Draco's wand (not Dumbledore's), right? My friend insists that it was Dumbledore's, but when I read I thought it turned out to be Draco Malfoy's wand.

i completly agree about the order of the phoenix movie, i cant say enough how i despise the movie, that is my second favorite book and ugh, the movie was short and not even concise to say the least. what i hate is that it left out the part when is that harry can not do either legimancy, (my spelling is horrible) or achieve occulemency. in fact the only way he say into snapes mind was through a pensive thats crucial facts for the next movie, and to add insult to injury they left out when lily came to snapes rescure this is so important because it ties in altogether in the end when snape reveals how is infact good and how much he cared for lily. and as i read its to my understanding that the dark lord has the elder wand and harry has malfoy's. but since the elder wand did not truely go to voldermort thats why i failed him. the wand has to be won and its owner defeated for the wand to work for you.

Hi, bunnie412...

Thanks for your thoughts on the elder wand.

Well, you're right about the pensive being so important in The Half-Blood Prince. I hope they do a better job on this next movie. I understand it's hard to condense such lengthy books into 2-3 hour movies... But in The Order of the Phoenix they not only left out important details, they also added stuff that wasn't in the book. My biggest gripe with the movie was the part where Voldemort entered Harry, after being defeated by Dumbledore. I mean, come on, Voldemort could read Harry's mind, but he NEVER possessed Harry. As I recall, in the book, Harry was helping a muggle couple escape (which none of these details were added). Also, the Dementors seemed more scary in The Prisoner of Azkaban than they did in this movie.

When I read I get vivid images of what all of these places look like, and the Department of Mysteries area looked nothing like what I had imagined. I hope they get the Malfoy mansion "right" and in the last movie the little cemetary and house.

My son and I have decided to read the entire series together again. It's funny how when you read a book for a second or third time how different things "jump out" and gain new meaning.

Harry Potter is by far my fav book series. I have read all 7 books at least 5 times each. I finished reading #7 in less than 16 hours. Deathly Hallows is my fave. In reply to the ? about the Elder Wand, Dumbledore did have possion of it, but in the tower in book 6, Half Blood Prince, Draco Malfoy performed the Disarming charm, and won the wands allegience, even though he never touched the wand, or used it. THEN,... in Deathly Hallows, in Malfoy Manor, Harry attacked Draco, and took Draco's wand by force. In doing this, Harry had won the wands allengience. Although Voldermort phsycally had the wand and used it,.. it would not perform spells aimed at Harry because Harry was the TRUE MASTER OF THE WAND.
Although I DO like the movies, after reading the books, they are somewhat a dissappointment. Especially #5, Order of the Pheonix. The CG and special effects were amazing, but it was NOT the Fantasy Adventure I expected, instead,.. a lot of musical sequences and teens discovering new feelings.
In Deathly Hallows, I was surprised about everything I learned about Snape. Did NOT expect that at all.

I stood in line at Walmart and at midnight I finally got book 7. I came home and started reading and was done by 9:00 am. the next morning. I was tired, but I had to read that book and find out the ending before I saw any spoilers on TV or anywhere.

The movie Order of the Phoenix was way too short. I don't know why they can't make the movies longer. Gone with the Wind was 4 hours. Why can't the HP movies be that long? Way too much pertinent book info was left out of Order of the Phoenix movie. Disappointing.

I completly agree that the 7th book was well written. I can never decide which my favorite of the books is, but after reading Year 7 I was completly satisfied. After all the other books I immediatly began longing for the next installment, but Rowling tied up all the loose ends very well in the 7th book. When I finished reading it my only desire was to start the series over again.

My runner up would have to be Prisoner of Azkaban because I am a total Sirius Black nut (I cried that this movie was in my opinion the point where they started leaving out serious plot info in the films.) Third favorite book is Goblet of Fire.

But that's just me...
