I would have to say the original Vincent Price classic House on Haunted Hill (I snuck out during the middle of the night when I was a young child just too watch it & it scared me enough to stay awake all night). Some other faves are The Shining, Carrie, Dawn of the Dead (saw this in a drive-in and we were all totally freaked out by people walking slowly back to their cars with popcorn LOL), The Haunting (1963), Bedlam (awesome Karloff vehicle) and many more I can't think of this second. Anyone else care to share theirs?
Oh, yes, Evil Dead...now those are classics!! I can't help but watch them when I catch them on TV now & then. Though my favorite was the third one - laughed my bum off!!
i have always loved all the halloween movies and poltergeist he first movie.....but it is really going to sound strange that my favorite horror/comedy is dead alive :) Just the amount of blood they used in the movie makes me laugh, and the idea of using a push mower to mow down a bunch of zombies was great!
Oh I just watched "1408" and it was pretty spooky, "28 Weeks Later" was worthy as well; I'm a big fan of the zombie movies, or maybe just the whole post-apocalyptic idea in general amuses me, I love "Dawn of the Dead","Day of the Dead" and alla that. The "Blade" trilogy is a sleeper hit I think, watched all 3 and LOVED em.You have to divide up the horror fans, they LIKE to be scared, but from what genre? Sci-Fi? Western? Oriental? Of course there is always the thin line for psychological horrors, horror where we see all the guts and blood and then the horror where it's all about what you DON'T see. Horror can be anywhere, but it must be done tactfully if you truly are out to scare the heebie-jeebies out of anyone.
When I was a kid I saw Burn Witch Burn in the theatre one Sat. afternoon and couldn't sleep that night! Nothing has quite had the same effect on me since.
I would have to say the blob scared the hell out of me when I was a kid but now I find it funny. I have always liked the friday the 13th movies, The nightmare on elm streets, and the halloweens, but the scariest now would be all of the faces of death and Brokeback mountain!!:-)
I loved the concept when Nightmare on Elm Street first came out...new and fresh for the genre...but it has since been run into the ground. Same with Hell Raiser, what a cool new and unique concept. But once again, run into the ground with the same old same old. Would love to know when a new and unique well done idea comes around again. :-)
Friday the 13th part 3 was my favorite of all of the slasher films. I always loved the Evid Deads and Dead Alive. Silent Night Deadly Night and Sleepaway Camp were two of my favs as a youngster. And for sneaking a movie in you weren't suppossed to see with your friends while mom and dad slept upstairs, you couldn't beat Slumber Party Massacre!!
