Hi everyone, I have two questions. First, I am looking to purchase a spotted saddle horse. Does anyone know a breeder or someone who has of spotted saddle horses in Florida? I am looking for a 5-10 year old honest trail horse, or related breed. I live in South Florida. Most SSH's that are a good match for me are located more than 1200 miles away.
I located a couple of sellers with wonderful horse(s) out of state. Now I am considering avisit to meet the horses but if I find the right horse, how am I getting it home? I am worried about the long transport. (The sellers all say the horses go in the transporter without problem.)
So here comes my question number 2: Has anyone ever purchased a horse from another state and transported it over longer distances? (1000 - 1400miles?) Do you have any advice for me - is it better to rent a trailer from friends and do it myself or rather find a professional service?
I know that is a lot of questions, I welcome any kind of feedback, any feedback about SSH's is welcome also.
I had a horse shipped from Kentucky to California. I used a smaller professional shipper. I would DEFINITELY recommend you use a pro. The shipper I used had various horse farms where he could stop and shelter the horses overnight - they had room to stretch their legs, rest and relax. It was vital on this trip as they were heading through Kansas last year when the tornadoes (51 in one day) hit in the area. He had to find shelter FAST. He did and got the horses bedded in, and they sheltered there for three days. Had I been on the road with a trailer I would have been lost (and terrified). He told me it was the scariest trip he'd ever been on - but they came through fine.
I agree with the other person - go with a professional. Ask for references or ask other people who they've been using. I had my mare and 10 month old filly shipped from Oklahoma to North Carolina, no problem, from NC to RI and PA. Never had a problem. Horses were always in good condition. Talk to your vet on what to give the horse after the trip. He or she may recommend a bran mash.
I had my Tenn. Spotted Walker mare transported by a pro. I found him on line. She never had a halter on and was in the pasture up until a week before she came home. She was 10 months old at the time. He called to give me updates on how she was holding up.every time he stopped to give her a break. I found it was well worth the time and money I put into it. The Best To You,,,
I bought a Spotted Saddle Horse and a Tennessee Walking Horse from a Kentucky gaited horse farm a few weeks ago and had it shipped professionally to Colorado by a professional shipper that the farm uses consistently because he's so careful and really cares about the horses and I couldn't have been happier. My horses arrived just fine (no bumps or scrapes) and the shipper gave us nightly updates as to their progress and how the horses were doing all along the way (to include their shipping quirks). The price was very reasonable and if I ever need to ship again I will definately get the same guy to do my transportation.
We are a breeder of spotted saddle horses & tennessee walking horses & are located in Northwest Florida. We are trail riders & produce quality trail horses.
We've shipped horses as far away as Ohio. We strongly recommend you use a professional shipper. The one we use stays in contact with us & the customer constantly during the trip. I help the shipper understand the needs of the animal & what works with that horse. I want that horse delivered to our customer in perfect condition just like it was when it leaves our place. If the shipper is a quality outfit, they'll give you a direct phone/cell number to the driver of the transport carrying your horse. You should be able to reach him/her at all times during the trip.
