Would like to get some of my fellow "DIECSAT JUNKIES" to elaborate on what you think of the postal or postage pricing when it comes to our hobby? I think It's really outragous...WHAT SAY YOU!!!
Hi Goofy, Well that total depends on whom you are buying your cars from and how it is shipped. Some sellers charge crazy high prices for shipping. As much as $18.95 for one car and 2 or 3 bucks for each car after that. I personally charge $4.60 for as many as you can win. If it goes higher than that I will cover the difference. I ship everything Priority Mail and ship same or next day after payment. $4.60 is the starting amount for Priority Mail. I do not make anything off shipping. I get all my shipping supplies from the post office for free. As does anybody that ships Priority mail. I print my labels from home and the mail person picks it up from my front door. Not only that I get Delivery Conformation for free when I print the label online. That saves the buyer 60 cents for that service. I could ship First class but I would have to buy boxes and tape. So I would still have to charge around 4 to 5 bucks for shipping. I only ship in boxes, If not it could get damaged. I would not charge more than that. I can normally ship 4 or 5 cars for that amount if they are in a blister and 8 to 10 if they are loose. I have many times paid 7 or 8 bucks and got the car in an envelope and the seller only paid $1.86 to ship it. No care at all in shipping. Once, the car was flatten from someone stepping on it or something heavy being dropped on it. The seller said it was not his fault and I was just out of luck for not getting insurance. Paypal had another opinion on that and refunded my money. Sellers are responsible for the item until it reaches your hand. That is why I pay for everything with paypal. If it gets damaged in shipping it is the seller that will loose the claim. So to answer your question, I HATE IT.! Ebay should have a system that requires you to enter the weight of the item when you list it and charge you actual cost for shipping depending on how they ship. i.e. First Class, Priority Mail, Over Night and so on. A good seller will have all their cost in the starting price of the item. That is what I do. I add up all my cost, Like what the item cost me, listing fees and any other cost I will have in selling the item and my mark up on the item. That way if I only get one bid everything is covered. I made everything I wanted to make off it. Anything over that is total profit. Sorry my response is so long but your question deserves a good answer. There is no need to make the buyer pay twice by adding extra on shipping cost. If you ever get anything and you believe the cost for shipping was to high, Report them. Even if Ebay does not act on your claim they will count it against the seller. If they get to many complaints in a 90 day period they will suspend the seller for 30 days. If it continues they will suspend them indefinitely.
Please note all the above is just my opinion. Thanks for reading my post Jerry
I know how much I am willing to spend for my toys - including sipping & handling charges. If a seller chooses to inflate the shipping, too bad I'll win another that shows-up for sale.
BUT... I would like the eBay policies for Fee Circumvention and Excessive Shipping Charges to be more strongly enforced. http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-circumventing.html http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-shipping.html
too many sellers charge $15 for $2 Media Mail shipping, a USPS offense. http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm300/373.htm
I would say that alot of ebayers inflate their shipping. Too bad as it makes it tough for the small time seller to compete and still make money. I was burned by a seller, they said they had combined shipping and then when I got the bill realized they had given me a really lousy shipping discount instead. My advice READ the description and shipping& handling charges sections SUPER close. I try to only charge $1 per additional item won when I ship, I do charge a handling fee... to offset the packing tape and bubblewrap expense. As for boxes I do not charge for this as you can get them for free from the USPS website and the Ebay mail central. You can not avoid Ebay fees and sellers who try and circumvent this are just ruining it for everyone. I ship only priority now to avoid any issues.I ship in boxes only as this offeres the best protection! Its quick and its not terribly expensive. 1 lb. should only cost $4.60 to mail... so in my case I charge $5.60 I make a buck to cover the tape and bubble wrap and ink cost to print the label. I do not bulk sale so for me, I need to make up that cost. I have seen in most cases for a single car you may pay anywhere from $2.25 to $20 bucks in shipping, anything over $6 your getting ripped off... What erks me is the people who say they have combined shipping and dont. Or instead say they do but only offer a teeny weenie discount. If you buy mulitple items from someone they can ship up to 70lbs for $8.95 according to the USPS website. Certain Zip (locations) might charge a little more, but not much. My opinion... yes alot of people overcharge for shipping. I do wish there was more people out there watchdogging listings for people who abuse the system.
Thats my 2 cents... thanks Josh - www.tinyrubber.info
I ship mainly 1:18 and 1:24 scale cars and trucks which can be packed in Ebay/USPS "shoeboxes" priority for $8.95. That is what I charge my buyers for shipping as I also include my overhead in the original starting bid price. Good Luck folks, Harold
Hello, I have notice that my seller ratings "STARS" or whatever they are called has dropped alot on my shipping charges. I don't think that I over charge for shipping. I charge $6.10 plus $1.00 for each additional car. Now I justify this with - My Time, Boxes, Tape, Packing Materials, and the MOST expensive part the GAS to go to the Post Office! I always use boxes and individually bubble wrap the cars to insure SAFE delivery. I have received cars in Standard Business Envelopes with the car just thrown in it. As well as cars just shipped loose in a box NO packing materials or anything. Thanks for letteing me vent a little. Rodney(thehearnman)
Shipping overcharges are getting out of control. 1 car somehow magically costs $20 to ship. That's a total rip off and many cars I want to add to my collection I have to leave behind because shipping is too much. I may be new to ebay, but I know for sure shipping shouldn't be that much. Many of the sellers are fair with prices don't get me wrong, but something needs to change to enforce actual costs of shipping. That's my feelings on it.
As a seller, I used to make the S&H FREE and add the usual $4.95 to the price of the item. Any bidding that goes beyond that sum equals profit in my pocket. This way, I'm almost gauranteed all stars and positive feedback, especially with Signature Confirmation sheets to prevent fraud.
Hello, Don't forget each item can incure handling charges when you buy 1 fine over $6.00 is to much ,but if you by 20 items there are 20 handling fees not just what it cost @ POST OFFICE,
I have a question about shipping in a bubble mailer. I hate to charge 5.00 to ship one loose car but I wonder if the car would still be in mint shape if packed in a mailer. I would not try this with a car on a card but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with loose cars.
The best way for a loose car is to rap it good in bubble rap, and pack it in a small box. As for shipping well everyone has their own way and I would never think of free shipping again when it comes to the many items I can sell with what they are worth in dollar amounts...nothing like getting nickle and dimed to death by buyers, One good stiff starting price works great. with Redlines I do starting bids on them any where from $ 4.95 to 20.00 or greater at around 45% of the going or book price and collector information from long time collectors, and 70's and 80's stuff I do a starting price of 4.00 to 12.95 and a flat shipping rate of $5.95 it covers most of the shipping and business travel fees as a seller you have to remember that you are selling stuff and when you sell its a business no matter how you look at it....its a income some one has to pay for the extras that are used to get the packages out so charge for them in your shipping fees. I buy cars also just for my family collection that me and my wife started for our 4 and 5 year olds I pay the shipping fees but will say something to the seller if I know I am being over charged. after the march 2010 I may not be selling diecast any more just silver coins from my collection of 1,000s I have from over 40 years time. Good night all!
I think it is absolutely crazy the prices some people charge. It's as if they know their car isn't going to sell for much so they make it up in the shipping. I personally wont even bid on an auction if shipping is more than $5, unless it is multiple cars like in a set or something.
