Hi all - I cross-posted this to the Audiophile neighborhood, so it may seem familiar to you already. Here we go again: long story, but hang in. We live in Spokane Washington. There was a gentleman here - my surrogate dad - who was a long time radio man: voice of the local public TV station, had his own jazz programs, etc. etc. He has an INCREDIBLE collection of vinyl records - we are talking 33's, 78's, even 45's from way back when he was in HS in the 30's. Frank died a few years back, and now we have this enormous collection of at least 2000 disks of mainly jazz and classical records to deal with. There is also a significant group of voice disks, like Edward R. Murrow and the Orson Welles War of the Worlds broadcast, plus some 50's-oriented disks like Henry Mancini. Like I say, he was collecting since the 30's and I KNOW there are probably some very, very valuable records in there. In most cases, the covers are perfect and the disks in very good condition - Frank didn't fool around with junk. There's also a sound system for playing these things, which I don't know if you can find anymore. Question: where do I start to unload this collection? It weighs a ton and I don't want to ship it. Nor do I want to spend my time learning about the artists and the disks to squeeze every nickel out of them. What should I do? Where do we start? Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!
