Hey everybody, what's your favorite Jazz record? That's a pretty tough one to narrow down. Perhaps a top 5 or top 10 list is more in order. Cheers, deepgrooveguru.
It is a seriously tough one to narrow down. The positions are always changing... Dave Holland "Extensions" Mingus "Blues and Roots" Miles "Kind of Blue", "Workin" too. Coltrane "Live @ Birdland" "Africa brass" as well. And about 7500 others.
Genius+Soul=Jazz Ray Charles w/Count Basie Orchestra - Quincy Jones Arrangements - Featuring Clark Terry on trumpet Originally on Impulse Label Recorded 1960 Amazing album!!
Like one of the guys above "Blues And Roots by Mingus is a great album. "Black Saint" by Mingus is essential as well. But it has to be beween "A Love Supreme" and "Karma" by Pharaoh Sanders.
I don't know about albums. I'm more into the way tunes are performed and the artists that perform them. Jimmy Smith (Turnip Greens-t-Bone steak) - Jimmy McGriff. Of course tunes like You Cant sit down (Phil Up Church-unique bass line) is pretty cool too. I have a lot of favorites, mostly I like to play or sit in with groups that are very creative. Unique styles and riffs are also bone chilling thrills. Being a part of the music is much more fun. Playing before a live audience is the most satisfying sensation I have ever experienced through out my life. I'm new on here so have only had a couple items sold on here but hope to make contact with some of you as time goes on. Be cool now. Keep on pickin' and clickin'.--- Andy
