When did the #24 car change from rainbow stripes to flames?

I just watched the movie "3" again, and saw clips of the #24 car trimmed in rainbow stripes during the 2001 running of the Daytona 500, in which Earnheart Sr. lost his life. I thought that the DuPont paint scheme was flames by that time. When did the #24 DuPont change from stripes to flames?

Jeff did drive the flames car in the 2001 Daytona 500. I believe it was the first time he ran the flames. The movie must have used old footage...
