I need some ideas for a good yarn for summer socks. not cotton, the last pair I made with cotton didn't last long. something light, airy, but also strong.
could you help me out?
Thanks

I'm addicted to making socks, and love the 100% wool sock yarns I got from Yarntreehouse. You have to be nice to the yarn when washing most 100% wool yarns; but the socks turn out amazing. I've got a bunch of other favorite yarns that I've used for socks, but I've noticed that the 100% wool socks turn out great; with some sort of natural elasticity that helps the socks keep their form. Hope this helps.

yeah, I love wool too! The only thing is though, you can't wear them very long in the summer, before your feet start to stink! ; )
Have you ever used soy or bamboo, how do those do for strangth?

I just bought some yarn for socks that is soft and great for those summertime socks. It is called TOFUtsies (toe-foot-sies). It is 50% Superwash Wool, 25% Soysilk Fibers, 22.5% Cotton, and 2.5% Chitin. The website on the skein is www.soysilk.com. They come in both solid and self-striping. I bought some cute summer fun colors for my girls.

I haven't tried knitting with soy or bamboo yet, but now I have to because I'm dying of curiosity. I haven't had problems with foot funk from the wool, but then again I usually wear my socks with crocs or sandals. I love some of the suprewash wool blends out there, but I haven't tried TOFUtsies...yet. I'l have to get on that. I love socks, and lately, its been about all I've been knitting. I love cables, eyelets and ribbing together in the same pattern. I make a lot more work for myself, but it keeps my mind going, unlike knitting up a pair of stockinette mittens. For my socks, I usually just make up the pattern as I get to it. I have favorite patterns that I've made up, but I don't have them written down, and I imagine that it would drive folks nuts if I attempted to type out a pattern right here. An online source for tons of printable patterns is at the link below.
