I think they were great when they first came out but the Leatherman should be the one considered as an "Engineering masterpiece". The design around a pocket knife has too many limitations and the pliers on a Champ or other model are just plain pathetic. Leatherman's design around pliers is way more practical and just makes for a better tool platform. I know, "Apples and Oranges".
