Hey everybody. What's some of your favorite Magic cards? Thought it might be fun to start a discussion on which cards rock your world. Here's a couple of my favs:
Akroma, Angel of Wrath. Sure it's pretty high mana cost getting the old girl out, but what a bargain after you get her! Vigilance, Trample, Haste, Pro Red, pro Black. I'm drooling sorry...lol
I like a lot of other cards, but I wanted to list one to get the ball rolling...
Hmmm.. favorite all around cards? Could be like.. favorite creatures.. favorite spells... favorite artifacts.. etc. I like cheap cards that have massive effects. like "Death stroke - 2black to destroy target tapped creature" or Assasinate.. or heck for lack of better things coming to mind... a 'Terror' will humble the mightiest of creatures. I think that a 'Word of Command' is a pretty sweet card. Visara the Dreadful - tap to destroy any creature.. thats pretty sweet.. heck an Avatar of Woe for that matter... Vesuvan Doppelganger, Seasinger, Drain Power,.. Blue is just too powerful a color.. I love a forcefield.. Green has some pretty killer cards in the Lorwyn block.. Who has never been bugged by a Nettling Imp?? Sorceress Queen's are fantastic.. Dark Ritual is a great card..
Thats a tough one... lots of good cards out there. Might be fun to pick a card from each set! I have to stop thinking because too many great cards are flooding the mind.
Basically anything on the Type 1 restricted list. Seriously, my all time favorite card would be Lotus Petal followed closely by Channel. Elvish Spirit Guide ranks high too (but oddly I don't play Simian Spirit Guide much). Newer cards, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Temporal Extortion, Korlash, Heir to Blackblade, and Dash Hopes all make me happy. I know their all not great cards but I like them. From Shadowmoor, Memory Plunder and Memory Sluice... yes I like to play black.
I agree on the banned stuff too! Skullclamp is so amazing. Especially when you stuck it in a modular deck. You could kill your cheap 1/1's, move the counter to something better and get 2 cards. Glorious! Alright Slappin brings up a good point. Let's go with sets. What is your favorite card from Mercadian Masques?
Two of my favs have to be Charisma and Dark Ritual.
Charisma turns a prodical sorcerer into a nightmare. Tap the sorcerer and steal a creature. How much fun is that?
Dark Ritual is just amazing. I'll never forget the look of shock on my friends faces when I got out a Phage on turn 2. Thank you Dark Ritual! lol.
My favorite card because you can/could play it in any deck except for it's banned status. Any deck will find it useful. You will never not play it when you have it. It is very fun, fairly cheap (casting cost). And, if you are the one playing it, it always makes you smile. chaos orb :)
You know.. I forgot to mention one of my all time favorite cards ever. I just love a SOL RING great card that for one mana, forever provides you with two.
Anyways.. as far as Mercadian Masques goes... I think I like the Notorious Assasin.. and of course Diplomatic Immunity. Dark Ritual and Counterspell are a close second. (among so many others)
Ya.. you know Akroma is pretty cool and all.. but a Sorceress Queen makes her nothing more than an ornithopter... .. then again.. a giant spider... or a control magic... or ... my my .. there are just so many ways around her. I think that Akroma is just glorified silliness, but I suppose even 'white magic' players need a Hero. :-)
As far as white goes, Lorwyn and Morningtide have impailed White with some awesome Kithkin combos.
Hey now, you got to give Akroma her due! Pro Red, so you can't burn her, pro black, so no negative counters or instant kills. No tapping required, and she hits you for six the turn she came into play. Yeah I'm thinking she rules. She does cost a bit, but with a couple tricks that can easily be overcome.
Well, call me a softie, but I love Dragons. Therefore, the one set that made me happy may not be what u think. Invasions, with Treva, Darigaaz, Dromar, and the rest. I love these guys, tho I rarely get to play them. They are just too cool for me.
Force of Nature is definately an all time favourite. I have no idea why, it's never been that great of a card, I think I just liked the art from the earlier sets. Also Leviathan, Polar Kraken I had quite a liking towards huge creatures, even though I often lost in the process of getting them in play.
I'm definately a big fan of the Oona's Gatewarden, as it's pretty much Michael Jackson in drag.
