My favorite close up magic trick is the AMBITIOUS CARD. Everywhere I go I perform it, and people of all ages LOOOOOVE it! Plus, I can do it over and over again, and no one ever gets the clue what's going on :o)
My favorite is the Penny Dime Trick Mini Scotch and Soda...it get them everytime...I suggest kepping two because everytime I do this trick somebody wants to see it again...
My favorite close-up routine is with the Bunny-pen Paddle. I learned the routine by watching Dan the Macy's Magic man "sell" the bunny in hat "paddle" at Macys Toy department and at country fairs. (He is the one who also had the "Coin Board"...Never could do it myself!) His patter and routine for the bunny in hat paddle was stunning, and I was able to master it. Plays well for kids and adults... but best with a kid or two around. Invisible rabbits fly around and are caught in the hat as we explain how a Magician can pull a bunny from the hat. It;s a secret, of course. Do you use the paddle at all? George Minot, Mystic Merrymaker
By far the very best close up effect is deep astonishment. Deep astonishment 2 is pretty great also. If you just upgrade the wallet in DA1 it is an effect that will get you the ellusive "NO WAY!!!"
I would have to say Ambitious Card is one of my favorite. You can perform it almost surrounded. Next would be the Spongeball routine, with this you can pack it and take it with you anywhere.
Hands down it's got to be Jay Sankey's Holy Moly. It a washer trick that just fries them. Check it out. It's worth every nickel you'll pay just to see the reaction.
My favorite is a pick-a-card, using a svengali deck with a teleport to an envelope or box depending on table space. I get big smiles from IBM & SAM members, but an open mouthed huh from others. Love that look.
My favorite has always been the Cups and Balls, to either perform or watch. When performed by a masterful performer this has been and always will be one of the most classic of magic effects. It also may be one of the most ancient tricks in the long history of magic.
Someone already stated that Deep Astonishment is their pick and I wuld have to agree. Properly executed it is a mind blower. Another one that I have found is so overwhelming that I had to slow it down and revise it a bit as it was almost too stunning and that is Jay Sankey's "Paperclipped". One other that is very effective is Twisted Sisters.
It has to be JOKERS ON YOU - An awesome card effect where three identical cards (jacks) are shown back and front. Magically one of the jacks turns itself face up in the face down stack. Finally the three jacks all change into jokers. Takes a little practice but the effect is certainly worth it. Another awesome effect is COMPLETE BLANK - A card is thought of, never named. With your back turned a spectator is instructed to cut a deck of cards a few times, after which you name the card - The first miracle is that the deck used is completely blank, no pips, court cards, just blank cards. The the killer climax. A second deck is produced and the thought of card is the only one reversed in the deck. An awesome and mind blowing close-up card trick.
