I have a few chairs that have worn out straps that support the seat cushions. These straps are a rubber-like elastic material. Does anyone know where to buy new straps or possible suggestions for repair. I am worried about stapling webbing as a replacement and would prefer something more authentic. Thanks!
I am a furniture restorer in bloomington indiana and collect mid-century modern furniture myself. I understand your notion to avoid staple holes if possible and you are right to be weary. I'm not able to picture how your straps are held on though. I did find a more authentic euro style rubber wbbing (50%0 natural rubber) here: item # 130146050282. I hope this helps a little.
go to the yellow pages and look under UPHOLSTERY WHOLESALER. go there to buy the rubber strap and metal clips. wholesalers do not generally cater to the public. they are more into bulk and do not want to bother with small orders and a dozen questions and doing your work for you. make the transaction clean and simple or they may show you the door. so do your homework, measure /calculate the total feet of rubber strap you need and the number of metal clips you will need. generally the cheapest way to but the strap is specify total feet. with the clips it will be cheaper to buy a bags of 50 clips for about $5.00. you do the cutting to you chair and attach the clips to the strap. take one of the old straps with you. pay cash, no checks. expect cost per chair to be about $15.00 total. good luck.
