One of my favorites was the first Paul McCobb piece I found. At the time, I lived in a large college town and students emptied their apartments just before Memorial day. Everything went to the curb. I came across this cool asymetrical, one drawer, wood and brass table with a heavy black marble top. There was a tag in the drawer that said something about Calvin, Irwin collection and a designers name. It went in the truck and home with me. This was long before the internet existed, so researching Midcentury items was a little more difficult:) After a couple years I discovered an article about Paul McCobb in an old trade magazine and I was hooked. The collection had begun before I even knew it. Twenty-odd years later the table still sit in our living room. These days we focus on Herman Miller, Howard Miller, AP, McCobb and other Modern pieces: from furniture to clocks, pottery and glass. Thanks for playing along.

Hi there!

I'm only 26 years old, but I'm getting interested in this stuff because my grandma has so much of it.

She's given me a couple of things - I have a way cool turquoise-colored lamp with a two-tiered fiberglass shade, and I have a modern bedroom set that includes a dresser w/ mirror, chest of drawers, and a bed with a bookcase headboard. I just love it! I've also bought some repro stuff. I got a Kirch sunburst clock repro (here off ebay, of course!) that I've gotten many a compliment on.

I recently attended my aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary party, and my cousins showed a video of old pics of them from 1958. I was drooling at the mid-century-modern stuff that they had in there - everyone took it for granted at the time!

College Finds are great, I moved out of my college house and started helping my buddies get their places cleared out before the landlord came. My buddy did not want to carry the heavy chair out of our study room. I told him to head home and I would take care of it, he threw me 10 bucks and left. The chair turned out to be a 1983 Jefferson Chair by Neils Diffrient that sold new for 3,500 .
