My husband and I have acquired 2 dogs over the winter. We have a 4 lb Maltese and a 3 lb Yorkie. Both are full grown. I am looking for ways that we can carry them along with us on the motorcycle. We do alot of riding and don't want the dogs to slow us down. Does anyone have any suggestions??? We have a trailer that we pull already so a dog trailer would not be an option for us.

Hi, maybe you can find a puppy pappose .Like the ones they make to care babies in. I use one with my son. Why not for small pups like yours.

Try tucking them inside your leather jacket and zip the jacket up so the doggie can get its head out. This would be a kinda neat way to get them around for short trips. :o) Ms. Traci

At last count, I saw 5 different web sites that offered several methods of transporting pets on a motorcycle. http://moto-pets.com/, http://www.angelsonwheels.com/ are just to name a few! Don't forget the Doggles!!! Happy trails!

Do your dogs have a problem with motorcycles?

I have seen pet carriers which fasten to the bike like a rear luggage carrier. I have also seen either backpack or horizontal carriers that fasten on either side of the passenger so you have contact to the dogs.

Whatever you use, be sure you and the dogs get used to using it on short trips before trying a long one. Some dogs get car sick, others don't. Plan on making frequent stops and enjoy the scenery. Remember you're not breaking in puppies but working with dogs who are already pretty much formed. Bad habits can be cured, but it takes time and patience.

One of the guys had a Pug on the Legacy Run from Indy to Reno last year. He loves riding, so it wasn't a problem. You can see him on the video

Have fun and be safe.

My uncle has a Highland Terrier about 14-15 pounds, he puts a tank bag on his bike, takes a towel and rolls it up to fit around the outer edge of the tank bag and there the dog sits. The dog loves it and stays put on highway, in town, on curves, or anywhere my uncle goes. He has DOGGLES (dog goggles), and dog helmet, and a little H-D jacket. Now the funny part, the dog's name is BEMER (like a BMW), it wears a H-D jacket and rides on a Kawasaki, LOL.
