F75 Film Camera/Flash Question

I have several AF film bodies including N8008, N70, N65 and this super lightweight F75. I obtained a Sunpak AF400 strobe with a focusing system going from 28-80MM which works fine with everything but the F75. The Sunpak PZ40 works with everyone so I know that the focal length is being transmitted to the flash via the hot shoe but the AF400 seems to ignore that data. Anyone else found body/flash mis-matches like this one?

I've been using a sunpac handle mount 522 and 544; I shoot manual and on full power the flash goes 50-70 feet with very good results , also with a difuser on it close up photos can be taken with the variable power option . It just takes a little practice.
