I am considering to purchase a Nikon 70-200 VR lens. I have been holding out for the new VR II . I will be using this lens for landscape and wildlife photograph. Can I justify the extra hundeds of dollars for the new VR version??

Not if you can get a tripod for $30-50.

I agree with the tripod suggestion. It doesn't sound like you are focused on low light or action photography. The VR may be overkill. Also consider the Tokina or Sigma 80-200mm 2.8 lenses. Both are very good.
