My camera takes lousy pics at night and if there is the slightest movement. I go to a lot of concerts and want to be able to get good sexy pics of my darling Keith Urban. Are there lens' that I could buy to make the pics come out better? Please keep it simple, I know NOTHING about camera's. More of a point and click person, but I learn fast! Thank you ahead of time.
the lens isn't the issue, it's camera movement during slower shutter speeds. Night shots require a higher ISO along with a slower shutter speed in order to come out properly exposed. In other words not too dark. I'd recommend a tripod but that's not an option at a concert, plus with a slower shutter speed needed your still going to get blur, since the performer is moving. I don't know the details on your camera, but check your manual and see if you can bump up the ISO to around 600 or 800 and see if that helps.
I've done a fair bit of shooting at Telethons and such so one idea that works is to make a beanbag of an old purse or sock - fill it with rice and that will give it the weight needed to brace a camera against a pillar or seat edge without anything too cumbersome or clumsy and a purse's strap let's you just it all hang out around your neck when its not needed etc. pockets of a purse are also handy for lens paper/cleaner and your cable release. A long strap can also double as a impromptu brace as well. For such a low light situation you best go with a wide angle lens for the best f-stop(biggest hole) for the light to get thru. But, believe it or not you can do telephoto shots if you get close into the lighted zone - but yes, blur is gonna be a problem but if used right you can demonstrate the frenzy of the event with blur streaks, just like with rushing water where you jazz up the foaming etc to show the action.
