I make pots... but I also love "Hull", "VanBriggle", some, "Maurice of CA.", McCoy, and am also looking for pots made by Beato, (Beatrice Woods) & Dave Shaner and more.
I collect Mar-crest Old Fashioned Stoneware, mostly in the daisy and dot pattern. It started a few years back when I spotted a cookie jar (just like the one mom had when I was small) in an antique store. I took it to the cashier, paid, and immediately left, since I felt there was no way to top that purchase!
After admiring it for a few days, I took it down from the top of the refrigerator to see if there were any identifying markings. Incised on the bottom were the words Mar-crest Oven Proof Stoneware. Being new to eBay, I entered the word Mar-crest (and also Marcrest without the hyphen) in an advanced search, and was shocked to see that there were dozens of other Mar-crest items for auction.
Mar-crest made 6 styles of cookie jars, and I'm luck enough to have at least 1 or 2 in each style. My husband jokes that with all the cookie jars in the kitchen, there's rarely a cookie to be found, lol. To date, I've bought approximately 300 pieces, and still search daily, in the event there's an item I haven't come across before. ;-)
YOU SURE HAVE A BIG COOKIE JAR COLLECTION, THAT'S SPECIAL TO HAVE THAT MANY OF ANY ONE THING, WOW. YOU MUST BE HAVING FUN AT THIS. I HAVE ONE SPECIAL ONE THAT WAS GIVEN TO MY MOM WHEN MY BROTHER WAS BORN IN 1939. ITS A PINK DUTCH LADY WITH NO BACKSTAMP, I SELL VINTAGE ITEMS BUT I WOULD NOT SELL THAT. .HAVE FUN
I love McCoy, Royal Copley, Stewart McCulloch. I look for cute or beautiful figural pcs. However, I buy things that I personally consider attractive, regardless of the mark or maker. I have found a few things on ebay that my mother or grandmother had in their homes in my early childhood, and I can't resist getting those.
I like Roseville, Hull, some Weller, McCoy, and Grindley figurines. I have been having a really hard time finding the Grindley, they just aren't anywhere any more, not even on Ebay. I would love to see that cookie jar collection sometime!!!
When my husband was getting his Masters in Enlgish from the University of Cincinnati (1973-75), I fell in love with Rookwood Pottery. Too poor to buy it at the time (yes, I am still kicking myself) but now I have quite a few especially the Arts & Craft Movement/Art Deco ones and the cabinet vases (a few Van Briggle). I also love Clarice Cliff's Bizarre series reproduced by Wedgewood. Still trying to figure out if I can part with them and how to get a great price when I do. I must have a dozen Van Briggle Bunnies.......they keep multiplying!
