Does anyone have a Flat Lap machine?

I am new to the hobby. In looking at lapidary machines, I came across this one...The SwapTop 6" All-In-Wonder Complete Lapidary Workshop. The All-In-Wonder can be set up as a 6" Flat Lap, a 6 1/2" Trim Saw, and/or a 1" Drum Grinder / Shaper. Each of the three machines can be set up in just minutes. Any thoughts on this machine?

Well . . . I hate to say anything . . . but the Inland ALL-IN-WONDER is sort of a novice toy and not very durable.I too was attracted to the concept of an all in one machine but you can get alot better and tougher lapidary equipment that will last alot longer.
If you do get one . . .can you let us know what you think.

highdesertgift, appreciate the honesty. Can you recommend a machine? I am looking to face polish agates & rocks. Some I won't even need to cut.

I would like to recommend RICHARDSON'S ROCK RANCH on the Oregon High Desert.Just google them, they have been at it for 50 years. They can get you professional equipment of the most popular types.
Diamond Pacific is one of the major dealers.Highland Park is the most popular.

Hi, I started on an inland all in wonder.Tthen got hold of a 6 wheel 6in machine but because of circumstances had to sell it so i pulled out my inland and started using it again it has yet to let me down and works great takes a little longer to cab but get's the job done. Now instead of spending a small fortune on another machine I'm going to set up my own using table top grinders.
All stones cut on my web page were done on the inland I will post some picks of my new setup and the cost for anyone thats interested but it is in the works hope this helps Tony. www.opaliciousgems.com

'Budding Rockhounds' are always in a quandry when it comes to equipment.

The All-in-Wonder and other flat laps like it are a great way to get started. You don't know how involved you will become. If you decide that cutting and polishing really isn't for you, you haven't spent a lot on equipment you only may use from time to time.

If you decide to advance to the Professional Grade like Diamond Pacific, you can and probably will still have a use for the flat lap from time to time.

Definitely buy used lapidary equipment if you can find it. Rockhounds who are older and have stopped using their equipment, people who drift away from the hobby, the wife selling her late husband's gear, people moving or retiring are all resources for used equipment.

A local rockhound club is the best way to find local used equipment.

You might also search on Craigslist and Kijiji within your state as well as other major cities.
