It is a very fair price for the size of the stone. In bulk t would have been 40$ so considering ebay fees and paypal fees the seller made just a little profit. I have similar stones and know this store owner. please visit my sites gems-usa and ThaiRockShop.
I think that you paid retail for something you could of got wholesale on a lucky bid,but that is a very nice stone and you should get it mounted.Alot of gemstone has metaphysical power and people pay extra for certain stones like moldavite or sapphire. One of the most powerful stones is RAINBOW IRIS AGATE.THE BLUE SKY MINE ALSO IS WAY UP THERE!
You paid less than a dollar a carat for a pretty and well cut collector stone. You bought what attracted you and you thought was nice. You got a good deal. Enjoy
TECHNICALLY THERE IS NO STANDARD FOR A ½-AMETHYST - ½-ROCK CRYSTAL STONE.
75 Ct. IS A LARGE STONE, AND IF WELL CUT, I AM SURE IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
COLOR IS, WHEN IT COMES TO AMETHIST, OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE!
AN IMPORTANT QUESTION MIGHT BE "DOES THE AMETHYST PART HAVE THE SAME DEEP QUALITY AS THE PICTURE ON THE AUCTION?" IF IT DOES NOT, THEN YOU HAVE BEEN MISLED.
OFTEN, THE COLORS OF THE STONES FROM "THAILAND SELLERS" CAN BE SOMEWHAT EXAGGERATED (IN THE PICTURE).
THE CLOSEST "REFERENCE" COULD BE THE AMETRINE, BUT THEN THAT IS ½ CITRINE.
I CAN GIVE YOU SOME COMPARISONS, BUT AS YOUR STONE IS NOT ANY STANDARD, YOU HAVE TO DRAW THE CONCLUSIONS:
ACCORDING TO SINKANKAS:
ROCK CRYSTAL (CLEAR QUARTZ): 20X20 = $10, 25X18 = $10 RC - FACETED IN GENERAL =$1.50 to $10 PER CT. AMETHYST, PALE COLORS START AT $0.50 CT AND UP
IN GENERAL, LESS THAT $1.00 PER CT. COULD BE CONSIDERED VERY FAIR, IF YOU DID NOT PAY EXCESSIVE POSTAGE, AND ADDITIONAL CUSTOMS CHARGES.
FOR FACET GRADE ROUGH MATERIAL THE CUTTER MAY HAVE PAID (IF PURCHASED AS QUARTZ / AMETHYST MIX) BETWEEN $0.03 AND $0.45 PER CT.
HOPE THIS WAS HELPFUL!
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW HOBBY! IT IS A NEVER ENDING JOURNEY!
Well, it certainly is lovely, I think it is a fair price for the cut and the beauty of the stone. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You can have a setting designed and give it to someone special or keep it yourself, I'm sure whomever wears it, will enjoy it forever. Amethyst has always been one of my most favorite stones, it imparts to the wearer a sence of royality, peace and tranquility. Enjoy. Shelley www.zhibit.com/slewis234
