Vampires are more a creature of the classic horror genre. There have been vampire stories in cultures that go back as far as the beginning of humanity. The first Vampire myths appeared in writings found on clay tablets in tombs in Mesopotamia that date back 6,000 years.
Vampires are a mythic creature- highly symbolic and occuping a place in the nightmares of humans for generations without end.
You do have a good point: many of the genres- sci-fi, horror, action, adventure- overlap and blur the lines. For instance, Star Wars has elements of several genres- sci fi, fantasy, heroic epic, action/adventure, etc.
However- most people don't really care about a movies category, or lack thereof: they are looking for a good story.
