cutting fabric?!?!?!

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for cutting fabicric, mostly for quilting. I tried a cordless electric rotary cutter but I could not keep a steady line. A basic rotary tool takes so long and I am still unsteady with that, sad as I am only 30 years old. I have been researching die and cut machines like the Sizzix and Accuquilt (cost WAY to much!). I love the idea, but it seems like it would take just as long because the fabric would need to be cut down to fit in the machine and only one shape could be cut at a time.
I thought that a side cutter that can be attched to the sewing machine would work maybe?
I am asking because not a single person in my family or a single one of my friends sews...so I need some help! Any suggestions??????

I have learned to like the rotary cutter for quilts. A friend of mine quilts and she showd me how to use it. You need to get a quality cutter, don't go cheap, it's lke a pair of cheap scissors.

I have no experience with die cut machines. That being said, a sharp blade in the cutter with a drop of oil helps to be able to cut thru multiple thickness at one time. Depending on the size of the cutter, I've heard of as many as 8 or more thicknesses.

A "Shape Cut" by June Tailor ruler is great to be able to make multiple cuts with out moving fabric or ruler and because it's slotted, it easier to keep steady.

Hello! Regarding Cutting FABRICS...1st of all, get to a Library or Your Local Quilt Shop and read, read, read, read, read ALL about different cutting TECHNIQUES!
Realize too, that there are products on the market (From Well-Marked Rulers to Large Slotted See-Through Plastic Item/Product that Keeps the Fabric SANDWICHED between the see-thru' top slotted portion and the bottom cutting board portion) that will HELP you to Cut Straight and Well! There's another product called ''Shape Cut'' it's 12 x 12 and is also a slotted product for cutting ~ There's Alto's (I think it's Alto's Quilt CutII, but it's not cheap in price!)
I'm from the OLD-Fashioned way of getting a Fabric to be Straight on the Grain, I rip it on the grain. Press (not iron, pressing is DIFFERENT from ironing) the grain end back into place, NOW I have a STRAIGHT EDGE from which to cut and measure from. I do ROTARY/RULER cutting, but that's just me. I Large Rotary Cutter Can cut through NO LESS, and possible MORE 4 Layers of different prints (cottons) all at once.
Actually simply getting the HANG of Rotary Cutting takes some practice, and NOT much at that...if you let you FOLLOW PRECISE INSTRUCTIONS from a good FREE LIBRARY book on Cutting, you might ENJOY the time you take to cut, because there's something about the Quiet Time you make for you to cut your fabrics that's Precious and Valuable, hon!
Good Luck! :)
