My son has bought a deck its Element. There are no holes drilled in it so its a virgin board. I need to get him the rest. I am a single mom so price has got to be reasonable. Please let me know what he still needs, its a suprise for his birthday, and how much it should cost.
Useful Funny
He still need the trucks, wheels, bearings, grip tape and hardware.
I don't sell any of this but you can find it with this seller/store:

I know what you mean. I am a single mom too and I remember buying my son's first skateboard. I was lost with all the terms. I do not know if you live in a big city; I do (Houston)., so I have lots of access to skateboard shops and the people that work there are very helpful. They tell you what you need, and put everything on the board for no charge or a very small charge. I like a shop called Zumiez at the mall. They have everything you need, plus all the cool clothes.

first off, you wont need to drill any additional holes.
nobody uses those plastic protector thingies anymore.
this is obviously your sons first board so go for value, he's not pro yet.

trucks- the things that hold the wheels to the deck- the lighter the better, brand dosent matter at this point, make sure the trucks are not wider than the deck itself, you want the deck width to match the truck width (including wheels) these will be the most expensive component(s) trucks are gonna be from 30 to 50 bucks i bet.

wheels- you can get a set of blank wheels right here on ebay for very cheap, there are hardness and size measurments for wheels, these numbers can be confusing, dont get bogged down. the harder the wheel, the faster you . softer wheels are slower but are more forgiving as the roll over stuff hard ones cant. ps get white or light colored ones, seriously, they generally wear better for some reason. you should be able to get blank wheels for less than 20 bucks

bearings- bearings are bearings unless they are SWISS or Ceramic or both, these are VERY expensive. avoid these until yer sons first contest.
abec numbers are ambigious (3, 5, 7), some people think this means how fast the bearings are, but it just depends who's pushing them. get cheap ones, you get get a couple sets pretty reasonably. oh and keep them dry and clean and oily. i bet you can get get a set of 8 , 2 for each wheel, for about 12 bucks

GRIPTAPE is cheap get 1 sheet for about 3-5 or so bucks on ebay.

you need hardware to put it together, get some SHORTY'S this should cost a couple, 3, bucks.

dude thats it. have fun, hope this helps. dont get overwhelmed.
i think its awesome that your getting your boy a skateboard.
my mom got me my first one a looooong time ago.

Aloha from the Island Rock of Hawaii,
Your best deal ,you need to bring yourself and son to a Real Skateboard Shop. They will set your son Skateboard right and get the right price to start off with, since its his first skateboard.Just ask what you want and what price range you want to spend.
Support your Local SkateBoard Shop in your state.
Make sure you have all the Safety Protection Gear and train your son to make it a habit to always wear it.
Always be Safe,Than sorry..

though it's not completely necessary if he has just started skating, skate shoes really are helpful. Regular shoes tear up very quickly, and if he sticks to skating you should probably invest in a pair.
