my friend if you want to learn how to snow board , go out and try a few different brands, burton custom x is what i started out on but i had been surfing regularly for 15 years , and it was easy for me, took me a day to get the basics down, you might want to try on a wide board at first , but you will soon see that it is much easier to turn the narrow boards once you have your convidence ,and a level of balance. if your going to go regularly invest in a good board ,because when you improve, and it happens fast in snow boarding you will be frustrated when you cant keep up with the gun riders, and do all the cool tricks, good luck.
Sup bro, I'm ridin noob too. I've got two seasons under my belt and just got my own gear. I did a ton of online research first but found this link to be the most usefull:
go on craigslist and find a used board then, or ebay and do a local search so you can pick it up. remember, you pay for what you get. look for companies that are not overpriced and hyped up (avoid burton, you wont find any deals). try searching venue snowboards (the most underrated snowbards on the planet, trust me) and academy. you may get lucky. also, search drake bindings, you can usually find them cheap (only bindings on the market that arent all plastic, the heel cup is aluminum, very solid binding)
