they always have great players,win a lot of youth wc and eurocup, and got real madrid,barcelona,valencia,sevilla,.....in there leaug so why is it they never win a big tournament
Thats why they are called the 'eternal underachiever', perform great at group stage but struggle at the knock-out stage. I think they lack the winning mentality. Actually they only won one Euro Cup that is in 1964. 2002 was a good year for Spain but ruin by the corrupted referee against South Korea. Will just wait and see what they can achieve in 2008 Euro.
Mental strength. players can't play at their best, make unbelievable mistakes, especially in the crucial play-off games during wc. You see some clubs in Spanish or other leagues, they have quality players, they play football like art, and they are always among the top 4 or 5, but just couldn't win the championship for a long time. Same thing
its because they have so many none spanish in their leauge.........therefore the leauge is great but the national side are terrible, jessica arsenal fc fan
Hi, I'm new here....I just wanted to say I don't think it has to do with the national team being bad, they're not bad, actually. I think it has more to do with the fact that the different regions in Spain are like countries in themselves, therefore the national team doesn't seem to have that united feel like other national teams. And, I guess they choke a bit in the big games.
Just my opinion....I thought Spain played well in the Euro 08 qualifiers.
they have a great competition but look madrid play with 6 spanish players barcelona plays with at least 5 spanish players so they have enough players playing in big teams like in england sides so they have a big team in names lets take a look casillas,puyol,sergio ramos,capdevilla,marchena,xavi,iniesta,fabregas, juaquin,villa,torres and a great bench i hope raul,guti,xabi,.... so they have a bigg team the problem is maby what nutmegcrisp says the union in spain im spanish living a broad and when you re far away from your country then you feel the colors of them
Hi, the Spanish League is good because it has some the best players from all over including a lot of realy good Spanish players. They all play a more open style of soccer in the Spanish League. But this year their league looks a little flat...
Their Spanish National Team plays well most the of time but they choke from time to time and they have been hurt by bad calls in many crucial world cup games, like against Korea in 2002
