Big time PS2 gamer back in the day. 3 little ones under 2 have changed that. Still jonesin' to get back into playing shape. Still have quite a few PS2 games to put to sleep. My question is this----I know back in the day when the PS3 came out, for the most part it was backwards compatible with the PS2. Now the newer systems do not have that feature. Was this strictly just a cost saving move by Sony to lower the price or were there issues that were never addressed? Trying to decide if I should just buy the newer model or search around for an older, backwards compatible one. Any thoughts?
Well congrats on the babies and the wife who will take care of them while you game out. (hehehe) I own both systems, one older 60gb that I eBay'd that is backward compatible and has the memory card slots under the cover in the front. I also have an 80gb system that is NOT BC that I bought off craigs list when my 60gb broke. I have since then sent the 60gb in to Sony and they sent me another refurb one. I don't know why Sony changed these but I suspect you are right about it costing them less. I know the 80gb system is MUCH lighter that the 60, as well as MUCH quieter and runs MUCH cooler. And to me, cooler means longer in electronics so that should translate into fewer service/warranty work as well. So, realiability and lower production costs at the same time. A no brainer. Whatever you do don't take all your old PS2 games down to GameStop or some such thing and take 10 cents on the dollar for them. There are still plenty of people who will pay you what they are worth here.
Thanks for the input. I have no intention on getting rid of the PS2 gear. Still enjoy the games and it wouldn't be worth it. Thanks again. By the way, what would you consider to be the top 3 games for the PS3?
I know Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 are very popular and Socom Confrontation should be a very good game as well, but the best racing game I ever played was Motorstorm 1 and 2. Call of Duty:World at War is also a great one(to get addicted to).
It's unfortunate that this has happened but ever since the 60GB (new version) released the PS3s models are not backwards compatible. I'd look for an older 40GB model if I were you. Best of luck! :)
GTA4 and MGS4 are the top 2 in my opinion. However I've only played 4 ps3 games since I got mine over a year ago, the others being Lost Planet and Heavenly Sword which were both all right but didn't have much replay value for me. Lost Planet's online games are pretty fun though.
It's funny you should mention those 3 games, sbor9075. I own them for the PS2 and they are in the last bunch of "to be played". Looking forward to them now. Thanks guys & gals for your thoughts. Game on.
