Hey, I just joined on this neighborhood and for that matter just realized that this sort of forum existied here on ebay. Im big into cusotmizing SW figures, that is basicly what my collection exsists for and in mostly made of is custom stuff in one sort or another. My question is what are some opinions on selling custom figures here on ebay? Many times pictures don't do the figure justice and it seems that the going prices for many custom figures are far below what it is worth to in time and material to make them. Im just curious to hear some thoughts on pricing and quality of custom figures from the community here?
Hello Jedi-Style, I took a look at your auctions and I was very impressed with the craftsmanship. Looks like you do excellent work. Now to answer your question, In my opinion, the biggest problem is that you need to have collectors who have the in depth familiarity with the figures you are producing. If the figures were customs from the 6 movies that people are familiar with and they are NOT available in Hasbro packaing then your market would be much wider. Thats not to say the market is not there for the other figures its just limited to the extended/expanded universe and then those people who are familiar with those names would have too have a consistant way of searching on ebay to find your auctions. I guess its a marketing hurdle to make people aware that they should search for "custom figures" and then you might get somepeople battling to buy your work. Don't be dissapointed that the sales are low, your work is great and I am sure you have an unbelievable collection for yourself. Perhaps there are people in your local area that frequent the comic book stores that sell the regular figures and those stores might take your customs on consignment so that you can get a better price for all your hard work. Good luck and keep it going; you should be proud of what you have done. Flmark
I agree that your figures are a lot higher quality than others I have seen. Some look like my 2 year old colored them, LOL. Finding buyer willing too pay what the time and effort are worth is close to impossible. I refinished a light fixture and tried to sell it for what I thought it was worth and had no luck. Everyone is looking for a freebie. Good Luck!!
Thanks for the thoughts, I appriciate it. It does seem that it's near impossible to get the time and moneys worth being put into a figure an dif you can get a decent price for a figure it is almost always a well known charecter or a trooper. there dosnt seem to be much market for a fanfic figure. Thanks again.
