I have been collecting and reading a lot of SK short stories lately. Just curious what everyone else thinks might be his best? My personal favorite has to be The Jaunt.
My hubby would have to say The Shawshank Redemption, though he does'nt read SK. I would have to think about it but I liked the one about the Trucks & the movie too. I need a cup of coffe so I can think as there are so many.
Survivor type! Simple straight forward tale of a man eating himself. Loved it cos I felt it was`ent typical King. That man has a very dark side, that occasionally slips out.
You want to talk dark side, I always think of The Long Walk, which Frank Darabont said he would like to do next. Wouldn't that be a trip? It would be difficult to do, just because of the very nature, but I would love to see it.
I started to write that I liked that story about the man eating himself, but couldn't remember the title since I read it so long ago. Thanks, Chershaun for the reminder - Survivor Type. Gruesome, but I couldn't get it out of my mind. The Raft was pretty scarey, too.
The Long Walk would be a very difficult adaptation. For me the Walk was mostly played out in the participants heads. Having said that if anyone can its Frank Darabount.
hi all...my all time memorable short story would have to be THE LONG WALK...i read it just before starting a job where i had to walk at a good pace to make it on time and all i could think of was this story for the longest time when i started that job....i have found with certain stories from king something always relates to it after i read some of them...like THE STAND...right after reading it everytime it seems i notice soo many ppl with colds/flu etc....just my imagination or ???
Hi folks! I am an avid constant reader, and one of the many short stories which still sticks in my mind is "The Moving Finger" from Nightmares and Dreamscapes. It was written in the typical King style, where something bad happens to a decent person, and where he hates to explain WHY it happens. I love that in a short story, and SK is the very best at it.
I have a favorite set of short stories, and those are the ones that relate to the Dark Tower. Individually, I don't think any one of them is the best, but I like them together because I am such a Tower Junkie.
These include: The Little Sisters of Eluria, Everything's Eventual, and The Mist.
The NTR (Non-Tower-Related) ones that stick out the most are The Jaunt and the one about that woman who folds reality to find shortcuts. I don't think either of them is the best, but I remember them best from many years ago when I first read them.
I don't consider the novellas (Four Past Midnight, etc) to be short stories since it is more difficult to read them all at one sitting. However, several of them stand out: Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, The Langoliers...
I loved The Long Walk, but that isn't a short story. I like The Gingerbread Girl - Esquire - July 2007, and many others, but I can't think of them right now. :(
A lot of people are putting in the short stories that are composed of the novels that have short stories in them like Four past Midnight, skeleton crew, Everything's Eventual... What about the hard to find stories that were in Magazines and publications that no one hears about till now...lol. I ask because I am trying to get a list of where I can find ones like Chattery teeth.
Also, if you haven't seen the Nightmares and Dreamscapes DVDs, they are decent films of several of King's short stories (most are NOT actually from the collection Nightmares and Dreamscapes), including the Autopsy story and more.
It is worth a rental just to see these stories acted out - I wouldn't spend money on a purchase, though.
