There as sadly been lots of talk since THE ACCIDENT about King retiring. (God forbid) However when the fateful day does arrive which book would you choose to remember the great man by. What novel would you reccomend to future generations as archetypal King.?
Useful Funny
Hi Chershaun;

I'd have t o say The Stand with The Dark Tower series close behind.

Since "The Stand" was the the first book of Kings' I read, I'd have to nominate it. Then also the same as the two previous responses, "The Dark Tower" series. It was an exciting experience. Good Luck to all.

The Stand was my first King book and the best! I also agree with you that the Dark Tower series was something King should be remember for.

Though I liked the Stand, I feel that it should maybe be a compilation (since he started with short stories). Maybe Nightmares & Dreamscapes or Skeleton Crew.

Well, I love all his books (except, maybe 'The Eyes of the Dragon', a rather silly book). My favorites are 'It' ,probably THE best novel of the 20th century in my opinion, 'The Shinning', and 'Bag of Bones'. I guess I'll remeber him for all his books anyway.

I agree with The Stand. He's had many books that were hard to follow but I thought reading the Stand it was like being there!
His new book Duma Key has a great story, I really liked that one.
He will never retire, and if he does, he's probably got his publisher a few in the safe to release when he's gone to that other world.
He will probably write a book about his death before it happens!
KEEP ON READING!!!!!!!! OH, he's got season tickets to the RED SOX! That's why he is close to my thinking. Remember Tom Gordon?

I would have to nominate "Salem's Lot" as King's best work. I read it six times as a teenager back in the 1970s and I loved the imagery every time. Great characters, a very frightening read - who isn't afraid of vampires who move into town and "take over"?!!! It provided me with some of the greatest literary thrills and chills that I have ever had. A wonderful book!!

Phyllis2509,

If you liked Salem's Lot, make sure to check out the Dark Tower series, as SL is featured prominently - and Father Callahan becomes an important figure.

I think all the chices are great, but I think Needful Things should be a top contender. The man blew up the fictional town he created.

Dear Scary Nurse!!

Thanks very much for the tip about Salem's Lot and The Dark Tower Series!! I had no idea! I have stayed away from DT because for some inexplicable reason I seem to think that it is more of a "Western" themed story? Am I wrong - I hope so!! Is the series compelling, frightening like SL or is it more epic in nature like The Stand? I must admit, I didn't really like The Stand as it did not give me chills or even thrills! I must be the odd person out on this one, I guess. Look forward to your response!!
