First off, a disclaimer, I love the movies that I'll be discussing, but I've found them to be the best movies to help me fall asleep. I watch them as often as possible during the day, but at night, I barely get through 5 minutes before I'm out like a light. If you have any problems sleeping, I recommend you pick up one or more of these movies - you'll love to watch them during the day and sleep to them during the night!
1st Place:
STORM OF THE CENTURY - this movie is the perfect sleep-movie! It is a "Maine-Movie" which means that it has a bluish filter to mute the colors. No bright flashes to wake you up after you fall asleep, and the colors are actually very calming. The volume level is very constant, with no loud or shocking noises throughout the movie. Finally, the DVD menu screen has a loop of soothing sound of waves crashing.
This is my favorite movie to sleep to, and you'll find it in my DVD player at least one week each month. I put it in, and I'm out! Try it for yourself, and it will replace any sleeping aids you are currently using. While I have slept through it a couple times during the day, it is mainly useful at night when it is quiet and dark.
P.S. It is a great movie, and well worth the price - I'm on my second copy because I've either watched it or slept to it literally hundreds of times!
ROSE RED - Again, the sound remains constant throughout the movie, without any loud surprises. The colors and visuals are muted because they are inside a dark house most of the time (not as muted as Storm of the Century, however). The DVD menus also feature soothing music (for after you fall asleep and the movie ends).
Just don't stay up during the parts with the maid - she is the scariest thing in this movie, and could give anybody nightmares.
This is another movie that is well worth it's price. You'll want to watch it again and again.
Both of these movies are superb by themselves, but they can also help you to nod off at night. Once again, the visuals are more muted than many modern movies and the music and sounds are more soothing. Two more great movies that should be part of any Stephen King fan's collection!
