Hello,
I have a 2006 subaru wrx tr that is having ecu problems. Last year during hurricane season i undertook some flood damage minor into the car. The problem is that that where the ECU sits on the passanger floor board it got a little wet. The way it happened is where i park downtown near where i work the water level rose had risen and i went to move my car because i knew it was coming down. On my way home that night i didnt know but some water had entered through the back right door and was on the floor board and when i came to a stop coming down an onramp on the way home from work the water came forward hit my ecu cutting me off and i had to get it towed home that night. Well the next day i took the ECU outta the car because at this point i figured out what happened and cleaned everything up really good and had the carpetting redone. Dried out. I put the ECU back in after being immaculate cleaned and the car fired right up with no problems at all except now i have a check engine light that wont go away. I went and had some diagnostics ran on it and it was throwing all kinds of codes saying certain things werent working but everything it said wasnt working was working. Like cruise control, AC, etc..... I can only think of one solution to get it fixed and thats replace the ECU but the guy that ran the test told me to give it some time and see if it works itself out. Well i have done that and it hasnt. Thing is i dont know if getting a new ecu will fix my issue or if its just a waste of money $600-$700 going through the dealership. Plus my warranty doesnt cover my electrical's anymore. THE THING I SHOULDA DONE but didnt think about was turn it into insurance at the time! If you can help with any suggestions in any way it would be greately appreciated. Im on www.Nasioc.com a subaru forum and we have all been working on this for a while now but no one seems to know what to do either. We have tried Flash tuning it and it takes the settings but doesnt read right on diag, because of the ECU just basically reading crazy so its not safe to do a flash yet to it until i get it right. Please advise.
Thanks,

I think I'd just look for a cheap used ECU and see if it makes a difference, either that or just save up and buy a new one. Sounds like you got fried in the flood.
I had basically the same problem years ago with my Mitsubishi Eclipse and buying the new ECU took care of all the problems for me. Not saying that's all there is to your problem but it sure helped with mine.
Good luck.

I think looking for a used ecu or if you have a freind with the same car try swapping ecu. see if the issue moves to the other car. Good Luck.

Go to camtuning.com. Become a member and make a posting. The person running it is a celebrity tuner. He will know exactly what you should do. Might even have an ecu for you.

Your ECU is an emissions device. Emissions devices are covered for 5 years or so from any manufacturer. Subaru should warranty it if it wasnt damaged in an accident or flood damaged. All I can say is if your car wasnt in a flood, and wasnt turned into insurance, no records of a flood, then they may fix it. It wasnt flooded was it...?

+1 for www.camtuning.com, just pm 06rexwagon. he will probably give you the best advice you can find, and may be able to look into your problem if you have a tactrix cable. but it really sounds like you may need to replace your ecu...
