It is supposed to be good for you although I believe it does contain caffeine, but not as much as coffee. Is this correct? Is it still healthy if you put milk in it? Happy New Year to all you tea drinkers out there.
Tea has alot of good benefits and a little caffeine is good. In the years I put milk in my black tea sometimes and all is good here. It gives it an interesting flavor. Probably dont want to put milk in green tea though.
True, less caffiene than coffee and I can tell you how you can decaffienate your tea yourself instead of buying the more expensive decaf blends. Milk does take away some of the health benefits. Yes there is caffeine in tea, how much depends on the tea leaf. Buds and first leaf will have the most as compared to second leaf. With tea the caffeine is released when the hot water hits the leaf. If you pour hot water over you leaves, wait about 20-30 seconds and throw that first tea out and then make your tea as normal, you have gotten rid of about 50-70% of your caffeine. Again it depends on your leaf. Dairy milk does lessen the healthy benefits of tea, but no study's have been made concerning soy or non dairy. Or non that I can find.
Tea is amazingly good for you-- full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. There are many varietals of tea, all coming from the same plant (Cameila Sinensis). The main varietals are black, oolong, green and white. The difference arises from the processing of the tea leaves. Black tea is fully oxidized and has the most caffeine; oolong is partially oxidized with less caffeine; green and white are not oxidized. Green has less caffeine than oolong, and white has very little caffeine. Antioxidant levels are inverse to caffeine content in tea, with white having the highest level of antioxidants.
Other infusions made with non-tea herbs like rooibos (sometimes called "red tea") also have numerous health benefits and absolutely no caffeine. One added benefit is that tea is a zero calorie drink!! To learn more about tea and get some creative recipes, visit http://teaquilibrium.blogspot.com/. Happy drinking!
